Default XRC-8 winch?

Well quadratec is running a special on the smittybilt bumper and xrc-8 winch for $500. Any negative comments? Reviews? Personal opinions?

my buddy ken has had one for a year or 2 now. we use it quite a bit and it's still going strong. kinda noisy and not the fastest but it gets the job done. I bought one a few months ago just because I ride with him a lot and know that it's a good dependable winch and it will go on my next rig.

Based on my experience with my Smittybuilt bumper, I vote no.

I have the $300. 8k one and it works fine. Like above its not the fastest and makes lots of noise, but works.

BUT, I would not pay $500 for a Smittybilt. I would spend a little more and get a Warn.

I missed that. I just looked it up on Quadratec. You would still need a winch plate and D rings. So figure another $90.00.

I have watched Curbdog's XRC8 pull several times, some were trail recovery's but most were BDMT's stuck in the mud. After witnessing his pulls I am convinced that this winch is a solid winch to start with. Yes it is loud and slow but it seems to hold up. I recently purchased a used one.

I know a few people who have had nothing but problems with their smitty built winches. Most of their products are pure junk.

I have had a an XRC-8 for two years now. Like others have said it is kinda slow and noisy but it has yet to give me any issues and I have made some pretty hard pulls with it.

I have the xrc8 with synthetic line and it does the job. No issues with it. I am not a fan of the plug on the remote (kinda cheep).

I just broke the clutch engagment lever to the XRC8. Apparently its a common failure point.

I have the xrc 8 with the synthetic line and for the money you can't beat it. I've had it for almost 2 years now and I haven't had a problem yet! The plug as stated is kinda a poor design but overall after atleast 10 pulls I like the winch. Id recommend their new waterproof one

i havnt had my xrc 8 for like 2 month used it twice....pulling other people out...mines not noisey but its and older model....i had a mile marker and the magnets broke inside the motor and the clutch switch was retarted it would get dirt in it...so i dont suggest the mile marker for sure...i havent used the smitty built with my new winch rope yet...but i would say winches are better if you take care of them....i dont think its the brand just how you use them and take care of them....i paid 75 bux for the smittybuilt with no cable the price was why i bought it...

I'll agree. I have installed a few for people and even had troubles out of the box.

Brand new out of the box here
