From what the dyno guys told us and what we have read dyno numbers are so skewed that comparing one to another is basically useless

mike only ran one pull where they actually recorded it and it was 233 hp and 263 torque, they basically made 15 or so pulls and went in and adjusted things to make the engine run within certain parameters. There was lots of techno mumbo jumbo talk and i was hopped up on monster and white castle sliders so i didnt pay much attention.

That being said the motor freakin rips and will burn a set of krawlers off in high range on the pavement.

it was cool to see it going from stumbling and hardly running to pulling dyno runs from 20 mph to 86 mph at 6600 rpm in a matter of seconds.
i like that!!!

mike got a 2.0 atlas to put in there so his 4th gear low range is the same as his second gear high range. so for 90 percent of the race course he can stay in low range which will be awesome.

Talking to the dyno guy, he said he has seen gains of 50rwhp on the dyno with different tires on a street/strip car; and said we could easily do the same. I was just glad to the motor acting like it should, with the exception of a damned exhaust leak.

Mike upgraded engine rips, and I'm sure we won't be able to see the full advantage until we are on the lake bed and ripping full throttle.

Sounds great. The number is meaningless with all those variables, but at least they got it tuned right

That's usually what people say when the numbers don't come out how they expect them too

i have seen top fuel and such, pretty cool stuff in slo mo. i just didnt expect a large offroad tire to expand enough to notice.

meh, not really. You can take a car, run it on one dyno and take it to another dyno and see the numbers swing 50+ hp. Just because the 2 dynos aren't calibrated the same doesn't mean the car isn't making proper power.

When you're paying for a dyno tune, I would much rather have the tuner spend his time tuning the car correctly rather than trying to figure out how to compensate/calibrate his dyno for the car.

yes that could/can happen, but you have to admit it is always an excuse that people use. In fact when I saw a stock 600 with an exhaust make 145hp on the dyno, I knew they are full of shit

I agree. You can take a lesser hp car and put it up against a dyno queen that just does dyno shootouts and still win.

sounds great guys. What about the "proper engine break in" lol
