Default Closest seasonal roads to SE Michigan

Got a break coming up from school and want to just go ride around for the day. Not looking for anything extreme, just some snow covered seasonal roads or the like. Am thinking about hitting the ORV trails in and around Mio just because I know the area, but some place closer would be better for the day trip aspect.

Thanks!!

During the times they are closed (nov-april), then yes, I think so.

I know of a few near me, but they are nothing to seek out. Pretty much 1/2 like long straight flat single lane roads.

Seasonal roads are not illegal to ride on, UNLESS they are part of the groomed snowmolbile trails, then you need to stay off the groomed part.

Most people around me go offroad on Heiss rd in carleton, mi (48117).
Its a seasonal road and it is really intense. Plenty of deep ruts, logs and whatnot. There are broken axles, thrashed tires and other parts laying about of that says anything about the intensity haha. I blast my ZR2 through it occasionally. Its closed from nov-april.

For trails to explore, West Branch is hard to beat. It's not too far for a day trip either. Then again, Mio isn't much further.

Old Heiss road is not seasonal. Its flat out closed. The property owner that owns the land surrounding the road has had enough of mud trucks tearing through there on the weekends, so now that its closed he calls the sheriff anytime anyone goes down there. He also planted beans across most of the road the last time I walked back there.

From what I have heard, the sheriff is ruthless to people that go back in there now. Not only will you get a disobey traffic control device ($115), but he will also nit-pick things on your rig.

Yes it was.

The last time I went back there (last year or the year before), the side next to the house had a big road closed sign across it, but on the other side someone stole/ removed it. On that side theres about a 1/4 mile of nasty holes before the bean field crosses where the road used to be.

Oh Ok. That Makes sense, I saw the road closed sign in October by the house but went to the other entrance. I figured since my GPS still says its a rd, i'll act like an out of towner and say it told me to turn here lol. Its worth a shot.

Pull up the new DNR ORV maps for St Helen and West Branch from the State's website. A small portion of the roads in the area are part of the ORV inventory, but there are numerous 2 tracks in the area that show up on those ORV maps.
