Default 1977 cherokee cheif rusty junk! project PSDFSJ

This is my buddies truck, bought it online and had it shipped from Colorado. From the pics it looked nice. The guy said it was rust free...$3500 by the time it was shipped.

Should have just parted it out and got what money he could out of it but I didn't want to see another jeep go to the crusher.

Front floor

In front of the rear wheel well..

The rear was so rotted the quarter panels weren't even attached to anything!

I ended up replacing the entire back corner on the passenger side with a rust free piece from the junkyard and the lower drivers side corner with a junkyard piece from the yard also. Along with the rear crossmember.

The frame was even rotted so I had to replace the rear crossmember on the frame along with some of the lower frame section. Just used some rectangle tube for the frame crossmember.

A few pics of new corners and rear crossmember

Now gonna work my way up. Replacing the entire rear floor with 14 gauge tread plate. Once that is done, cutting out the front floors, replacing floor supports, inner and outer rockers, new floors and then new entire quarter panels. I know it's really not worth it in the end but I volunteered to help him out and I'm sticking to it!

The drivetrain is going to be a power stroke, zf trans, dana 60 front, 10.25 rear with 38 or 40 inch tires.

This may be the only fsj with a 7.3 power stroke. Been trying to find another online with no luck so far. Axles are going under it next week. And hopefully start mocking up where the motor will be sitting.

He was going to but never did. It wasn't through eBay or anything so he couldn't do anything about it really. Karma is a bitch, he'll get his. In the mean time I'm just saving another jeep from the crusher! Haha

Bummer. I hope he does, I'm sure he screws people over often also.

Got the rear axle mounted in place. Trying to keep this thing low as possible but still run 40" tires. Not because we need to but because we want to. It's going to look cool.

Test fit of a 42, going to need a lot of metal work but no biggie, putting new quaters on and big home made fender flares on anyway.

These will be the rims we are going with. Gonna take the stock 4" blocks out from the rear axle so it's not so damn tall. Soon going to be getting going on this again!

Going to get the front 60 in place and then start fitting the powerstroke. Going with an aftermarket heater that will mount up under the dash so we'll have more room in the engine compartment. Going with hydro lost brakes also so that will give us enough clearance for the motor.

Got the 60 mocked up close to where it will be. I've gained 4 inches of wheel base which will help since this will be a part time tow rig.

Looks like we are keeping the stock ford 4" blocks in the back, the way the from axle fit I won't be able to drop it down any farther then it is.

Thanks guys, the color isn't staying. It's actually growing on me but I think it's going to end up being like a gun metal gray metallic.
