Or try and stuff it and work in tight spaces i may move the firewall back around were the distributor will be also.

PICS FROM ABOVE ARE TODAYS PROGRESS I STRIPPED DOWN THE ENGINE BAY TO START CLEANING IT UP. REMOVING THE OLD HARNESS GOING TO WIRE AND REPLACE IT WITH MY OWN.

THESE ARE THE BOXES OF PARTS I'VE ORDERED IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS TO GET THIS BALL ROLLING A LITTLE FASTER. MY CURRENT BUILD COST TO DATE AFTER SELLING OFF PARTS FROM THIS AND BUYING NEW OR SOME (USED) ONES IS $3150 PLUS I HAVE ALMOST ALL THE EXPENSIVE PARTS ALL READY INCLUDING THE PAINT.

I still have to get two more expansion plugs to plug off my pcv valve and breather holes so i can steam clean the motor then put on my new oil pan & oil pan gasket and timing cover gaskets. I'm painting the motor/intake chevy orange then doing wrinkle black on the pulleys valve covers and oil pan. Im doing gloss black engine enamel in the engine bay tomorrow morning and ripping the rest of the harness out of the dash inside the only part of the harness im keeping is for my wipers im keeping the pigtail and the pigtail for the blower motor then ill rewire those into my new harness as i go.

STARTED CLEANING UP THE ENGINE BAY AND MAKING UP THE WIRING HARNESS AND NOW THAT IT'S ALL PLUMMED UP I NEED TO GET SOME OF THE PIGTAILS FOR THE LIGHTS. NEXT I NEED TO MAKE MY SWITCH PANEL AND FUSE BOX TO GO BETWEEN THE FRONT TO SEATS AND TRY IT ALL OUT.

This is by far my favorite thread, love the color. This might sound like a dumb question but how did you get the frame, rear end, leaf springs, all all of the other components black like that (what did you use).

The previous owner did alot of it but the best thing I've found is to use the dupli-color truck bed coating brush it on where you can i get the spray bombs to hit the hard to reach spots. Plus its good and tough and cleans off easy after wheeling.

New tires are ordered i'm going with a 32x11.5r15 telstar mud claw radial's should be in soon & I'm picking up a different 2.8l with only 60k on it next weekend. Figured i cant pass it up for $300 complete w half the miles of the one i already have. Plus this will give me a good core to do a 3.4l stroker to over the summer so its ready to swap by next winter.

not to much progress lately been realy busy but I did start making my dash and center console tonight. Gauges r in place and started to be wired. And the center console is close to finished but needs a little more work before i start installing all my electrical and switch panel into it.

Is there a difference between the GM 2.8's? I always thought those were the ones to stay away from because they came with a rod hanging out the block.

It should be pretty sweet all said and done. & as far as the 2.8l goes i've never had an issue using a rear wheel drive cast iron head version . But I heard they've had issues with the front wheel drive alluminum head ones. But that was a camshaft issue not rods as far as everything I know so far. I worked at a parts store for 10 years now and there a decent motor usually only good for 225k though. I did just pick up a new low mile one im gonna use it only has around 60k on it.

Gauges almost completely wired new motor stripped down ready to degrease and paint. Once thats painted i have a new oil pan/intake/valvecovers to go on it and im going to freshen it up with all new gaskets. Trans jack just showed up today so this week i will be fabbing it into my floor pan and making a mount for that and lining up my new motor mounts.
