Default Southington Offroad

Good Morning,

I would like to take a second to let everyone here know about a "new" location to wheel in the northeast Ohio area. I have new in quotation marks because the property has been used for Jeep events in the past couple of years but Southington Offroad is NOT the same park that was previously being run on the same piece of property.

We will be open to full-size 4x4s (Jeeps, trucks, Toyotas, Samurais, buggies, Land Rovers, Etc) on the first full weekend of each month and open to the ATV crowd the following weekend.

Pricing will be as follows for 4x4 weekends:
  • Weekend pass (Saturday & Sunday)............. $40
    (for 1 vehicle & driver)
  • Day pass (Saturday OR Sunday).................. $25
  • Additional Guest (Each person).................... $5
    12 & under free
  • Primitive camping site................................ $20
4 person/2 tent max per camp site
  • Electric Camping Site................................. $35
Again, 4 person/2 tent max per camp site
  • Each additional guest camping past 4........... $5

Southington Offroad's first 4x4 event is scheduled for December 3 & 4, 2011.

At this point we are planning on having at least a few new trails open before December with more trails and obstacles planned. As for the terrain at Southington Offroad, there is a great mix between rocks, sand, trails through the woods, muddy trails, mud pits, hills, etc.

I do not have a completed rules list at this time but expect it to be typical of other offroad parks.

A website/forum is in the works and should be up sometimes this week. I will post the URL as soon as I see that it is up.

For the time being, we have a Facebook page going for info. People are already starting to share their photos and videos, so you can start to get an idea of what terrain is available.
http://www.facebook.com/Southingtonoffroad

If anyone has any questions feel free to post in this thread or PM me. I will do my best to respond as quickly and accurately as possible between classes and work.

Is this the same property as JeepSkool was on? If so, is Kelly still involved? Just a heads up, he didn't make any friends over here on this site.

Yes same property. No, Kelly is no longer involved in anyway. I am well aware that he did not make any friends over here (as well as just about every other forum he was on)

We would like to separate Southington from Kelly/JeepSkool as they are no longer in any way involved (just trying to be clear here).

Many of the complaints from here (as well as many other place/people) were taken into account and you should notice that when you come to Southington offroad.

I was just on the jeepskool forum and it still seems to be active. Is it the voice of Southington or just facebook? (facebook doesn't say much)

The JeepSkool site is still and to my knowledge will remain active. To my knowledge, JeepSkool has no event planned for the near future. The JeepSkool site is not the voice of Southington. Southington Offroad will have its own website which should be up this week sometime. For the time being (the next couple of days) Southington Offroad's Facebook page will be the place to find any info.

I'm confused. So southington owns and operates the location. Jeepskool/robocon is no longer affliated to the property but still uses the property, just has no events planned?

Understandable. Southington owns and operates the location. JeepSkool/Robocon is no longer affiliated with the property and will not be holding events on the property. To the best of my knowledge JeepSkool also has no events planned at any pieces of property.

Does that clear it up?

Would it still be possible to get him on site if I make a trip down there so I can punch him in the neck? I would hate to waste a trip.

Good luck! It actually looks like a great place with a ton of potential.

Sweet!! Itís cool to see the sport growing. Canít wait to see the website, and hopefully you'll put up a lot of pics.

And if there is some type of recovery fee, please be up front with it and explain how it works. Better yet donít have one

People are already posting tons of pictures to the facebook page.

as far as recovery fee. There is no set $500 fee for recovery nor is there a mandated recovery by heavy equipment. The heavy equipment will still be available if needed (I personally can't really think of a situation where heavy equipment would be needed though) If somebody really wanted to have their 4x4 pulled around by an excavator (I'm sure everyone would try to convince you otherwise first) they may have to chip in some cash towards fuel depending on the situation (how far/long the equipment had to be used/driven)

Personally, I would love to see some crawling comps and racing comps (alot like they have at RC). But I know that there is a decent amount of liability involved with any type of competition. there is also the issue of having a course set up. I think that there could be room for a comp course set up (like at RC) but from what I can gather it is a decent investment with potentially limited uses (especially from the land owners point of view) With a race series, I'm not sure how much space is needed. I have been trying to find info on what is involved in setting a course up but have not been able to find much. If you have any info or contacts you could pass along to me in a PM that would be great.

Good news that Kelly / Robocon / Jeepskool was banned from this property. He wasn't pasting the "experience" in a positive light. I will however, wait for some reviews prior to my return. Good luck with everything, there really is a LOT of potential for some neat events at this location.

The land owners will be running Southington Offroad. I word this funny on purpose. I am trying to emphasize that is not JeepSkool with new management this is an entirely new set up that is run on the same piece of land. I just want to make that perfectly clear.

Welcome and congrats on the new move of the park. Making these people (your valued guest) happy and stratified is the up most important task. They will also be a very big help in driving the park in the direction of their needs. Take all suggestions ,thanks and complaints to heart. Then use this information to build a relation with the guest so they want to come back.
Good luck and hope to see you sometime in the future.
