if you have a car that needs that many spare parts, its a piece of shit and you need to do some general maintenance.

it looks like a stock vehicle, people drive them for hundreds of thousands of miles. get in and drive, if you need parts there's 1248932645762561425945 parts stores.

I would take:

Spare motor
Spare starter and alternator
Spare transfer case
Spare transmission
Spare Dana 30 and 35

I would also take a spare steering column.

when I road trip I take my old truck with 200,000+ miles on it. I take 4 spare tires, a complete front axle assembly, spare tie rod ends, a spare trans, 1 rear driveshaft complete with new u joints, a spare rear axle, and a rebuild kit for the engine. All associated gaskets, fluids, and penetrating oils. I also take a complete toolkit complete with air tools and air compressor. Once packed up it's a bit heavy, but it does the trick.

Only thing that ever fucked me was a frozen caliper, so I carry those now too.

its a jeep, all the wear parts are pretty much an "instock" item at most parts stores.

bring tools if you must, a flashlight, first aid kit, cell phone, credit card.

grease everything before you leave and change the oil.

dont over think the situation. 9 times out of 10 the parts you have in the vehicle arent the ones your going to need any ways

Seriously?

2-3 u joints? Really? Wow... I really don't know what to say. Why would you need spare ujoints for a road trip?

Are we playing Oregon Trail or something?

Its 2011.

The only thing I need for a road trip is my cell phone and car charger.

i only say that cause i read all over about how easy the u joints go out in these and that it could be pretty shitty going down the road if one shits the bed so i figure its a cheap expense and o well ill have a few extra laying around.. and i dont want to just call people to come fix my shit. i like to fix my own and would rather have the parts there instead of having to walk to a store to get parts..

Yeah they go out easy offroading it, but going down the highway?

Hell I've had vehicles that have had 100k on the stock ujoints.

Can't forget the sunglasses, I always have a pair with me though. I don't have expensive sunglasses, but there's nothing worse than having to get a $4.99 pair from Flying J an hour into your trip lol

Yeah if my shit breaks on the road like that its a call for a wrecker. I'm not going to get smeared by some dude texting, drinking, and eating a big mac while I'm ass out in traffic trying to play mechanic. No thanks...

Bring along a bottle jack and move your spare to the rear. Stop every 3-5 hours and check your tires. Most people that have issues with trips like this blow out a tire. By having a bottle jack and the spare in the rear ready to go you wont be on the side of the road as long messing around.

Take the jeep to a car wash and clean it up and degrease the engine.
Do a basic maintenance check topping off fluids and looking for leaks on the now de-greased engine.

I would check the condition of your hoses and if you can't remember ever replacing them this might be a good time.
