Default Coolant system pressure

94 exploder
Changed
- radiator
- waterpump
- cap
- thermostat
- heater core
- basic water flush
- lower intake gasket
- bypassed heater coolant valve

Could an air pocket cause pressure problems?
Thermostat and heater core replaced last spring the rest just recently. Temp fluctuates high at first like a stuck thermostat then tends to run on the cool side, this is since pump/rad replacement. Has heat but not as hot as it should. No coolant in oil and level hasn't gone down also rad full. I can remove cap when warmed up and no pressure release at all. Cap warm but not hot. Have elec fan with probe in rad and it turns on/off. I've been chasing a lack of real hot heat/no pressure since I bought this.
Doesn't over heat.

i would imagine that an air pocket could do this, however i have no idea because my 95 f150 is doing the same thing. I will be very interested to know what you come up with. Good Luck!

Time for new head gaskets and Intake manifold gasket.

I rid of my 94 explorer because that. No matter how I tried it keep build air pocket near sensor for temp.

It fucked up oxygen sensor too.

Easy way to know if head gasket are leak. Pull 6 spark plugs which are white. My #1 cylinder was very white lean so coolant been in there.

What color that explorer? Light green?

My heater on that would kill you. WAY HOT than it supposed to be.

Is coolant resivor tank full ? Fill that to max line then drive like you stolen then open to check if tank is empty or full. I notice on mine when drive like asshole it suck coolant out tank.

The thermostat comes with a hole with a check valve type deal already in it.

I removed the thermostat and the checkvalve was full of crap.

I replaced it but the old one was prolly fine after a cleaning.
So all is good ATM. Time will tell but I just drove it around town and it seemed fine.

I just flushed it right before I replaced water pump but Its already pretty nasty, I imagine I didn't do a thorough enough job and will will do it again. I'm assuming that the abbreviated flush I did just stirred up crap.

I had initially feared a head gasket but it didn't have the classic symptoms.
But with 205k its not unthinkable.

It has never used any coolant since I've owned and the overflow does work.

Thanks for the replies.
I had this, and others, posted on explorerforum.com and I get hardly any replies there. Seems odd.

I did a lower intake gasket not too long ago and it was very clean inside. Especially for 205k miles. At least oil changes weer kept up previous to my buying at 192k. If a Head gasket pops I will find a lowISH mile replacement motor and tear this one down. I have too much time/money invested into this piece of shit to get rid of it. I have toyed with a v8 swap eitehr 5.0 or even LS.

On oil mine were clean gold no milky. It had little lag on highway at couple random. When I notice LAG next thing I open hood there coolant tank puked coolant little. It doesn't do that when test REV in park. Drive it doesn't do. Drive HARD or in 4wd it puke coolant out.

Hmm. I will keep an eye out for this. But I will likely find another motor just in case anyways.

I wouldn't gamble with other 4.0L OHV. Saw them in junkyard with radiator that was full of brown.

Just swap 5.0L with AOD you be HAPPY

I've had this same issue with mine for the last year. heat blows and gauge dances a bit.
