Default 46 Willys CJ2A wheeler build

I have had this 46 CJ2A for almost 2 years. It has a Chevy 153 from a Nova/Chevy II. It drove when I first traded for it but the trans shifter would lockup all the time. It was Saginaw 4 speed with a Hurst shifter. I messed with the linkage and couldn't get it to shift any better. I had a shop take a look at it and they had no luck either.

I found a T90/Dana 18 combo with a chevy adapter and swapped that in and drove it around all of summer/fall 2013. In fall 2013 my idiot brother in law was driving it around and got himself hit by a car. It did not do a lot of damage but enough that I decided to bring it in and start working on it.

A guy I knew needed a place to stay and offered to do the work on it in exchange and have it ready for blessing 2014. He did some of the body work and then fizzled off so I am finally getting started on it. My goal is to have it done for a July trip to Rausch Creek in PA.

The frame has rot so I am going to fabricate a frame for it, extend the wheel base a little bit, and put in a Dana 44 rear from an early CJ and a Dana 30 from a later CJ. I am planning on going with a TBI 4.3/SM465/Dana 18 combination.

I will be comp cutting the rear, SOA lift, and running 34x9.5 TSL's.

Also plan to do lockers, power steering, and roll cage if I can get to it in time.

Long term I want to swap out the cj2a grill and put in a repro military grill and paint it OD. Don't plan to get that done before July.

This jeep may look good in the pictures but it was held together by bondo and 2x4's underneath. The tub should have honestly been scrapped but since work has been done to it, I am going to finish it up.

Imo the 465 is a big transmission and the t18 fits better. Spend the money on the trans-bell setup and save the trans-tcase adapter $$

Looking forward to progress

I found a good deal on a 465/18 with teralow kit & overdrive combo that's all be redone. Otherwise I probably would have looked at some other options.

Subscribed. I'd seriously dissuade you from going SOA with the early (narrow) CJ axles & "pizza cutters", though, Kyle. Your COG will be pretty high. You should be able to clear the 34s with just a couple inches of lift.

Good point. I was just going to do it for simplicity but a couple inches of lift is probably the way to go.

Very glad to see you circling back around to this Jeep, BTW.

BTW, I have pics of my old M170 with 34x9.50s with no lift on FB.

I have a 2a frame that I can sell you for a very fair price if you pick it up. Already boxed in, at least in the front if you would rather go that route.
