Question 1996 Chrysler Lebaron GTC convertible trunk problem

My sister hit some child safety switch on the interior of her trunk. There is a lever on the drivers side floor that usually pops the trunk open which no longer works. Key no longer works.....

This car is in really great shape, so I am baffled as to why we can't get the damn trunk open.

Something simple I am over looking?

Does the back seat fold down? maybe you can get in that way.

Default buy cytotec

cytotec is a medication with anti acidic activity used to prevent formation of stomach ulcers in patients who take NSAIDs such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Its main component is Misoprostol, it is a synthetic prostaglandin, the substance which is produced either in a stomach. Their role consists in protecting inner lining of the stomach from destructive action of NSAIDs which are supposed to destruct natural prostaglandins in the stomach.

At this point the only solution is a cutting torch.

seriously, usually those in trunk releases pull a pin that locks the trunk latch OPEN so it cannot be shut and latched again.

You try just pulling it up?

been awhile since i messed with a conv lebaron. if you tried everything else (key and popper) maybe pull the rear seat and see if you can get in it through there. no sure if you can but worth a shot. might try spraying the lock cylinder and working the key. sometimes it breaks free after awhile.

I've pretty much done it all except unbolt the rear seat. Car has only about 40k on it.

Does the key not turn?

Does the key turn but not pop the trunk?

Does the key turn and you hear the pop but it doesn't open?

only way in is the key since the lever was flipped. you need to soak it in pb blaster and work it. or you can pry the lock out but that will mess up the hole

Yup, there is a switch on the trunk release INSIDE the trunk. To release it if the lock on the outside is broken (common, both mine are) you have to disassemable the rear seat with the top up. Its not hard, two bolts at the bottom of the cushion (the bottom cushion just pulls up with two plastic clips at the front), take the top liner out, and then remove the boards/insulation between the top area and the trunk. Have fun. Top off the top pump with auto trans fluid while you're back there.

Oh, and its not a 96, the last year was 95.

Find somebody small, but with knowledge of how a trunk mechanism operates (not a child). Pull the liner boards up with the top up and its possible to get in there and try to work the mechanism.

I've had a few lebaron convertibles, and the locks always managed to get boogered up. I'm 5'9" and I could maneuver my way back there...but somebody smaller would have been a bit more ideal.
