Default Christmas spirit.

Ugh. I just saw a most wonderful demonstration of Christmas spirit. One woman was standing in a line and the lady at the register said that she was closing her register. The woman in line proceeded to say, "I've been standing here for ten f**king minutes!" and was met with an, "I'm sorry ma'am". Another Target employee said, "Ma'am, I can take you at this register." The lady went to the wrong side of the register, and before she could get back to the right side, another lady slid right up. (I think the cashier may have made a little comment about being impatient to the woman who had cut in line, but this did not phase the woman at all.) Anyway, I stayed in my line, after all it seemed that everyone else was in much more of a rush than me, and, when it was my turn up at the register, the lady said, "How are you doin' today". I responded with an, "I'm wonderful, thanks. How are you?" After ignoring my question, she then followed her script to a 'T' with a, "Is this all for you today?"

I was kind of bumming and I needed a little 'pick-me-up' and some reassurance that there were some members of the human race who weren't a$$holes. I passed a lady in the parking lot and said, "Good evening." She just walked by without even .025 milliseconds of eye contact.

Merry Christmas.

Ok. I don't care who you are or if you do or do not believe in the TRUE meaning of the holiday, but please put a little effort into being kind to other people...As a matter of fact, do this every day of the year.

We make countless posts about people tailgating and driving like idiots, but it seems to me like that stuff doesn't stop when that person steps out of the car.

Sorry...had to get that out of my system.

I'm always friendly.

But I view it totally different. When I run into someone who is rude, or very unfriendly, I make it a point to be so obnoxiously friendly that they can't stand it.

Today, I was at a house giving an estimate.. Well, immediately I realized this lady had a big problem in life, and hated everybody.. I was so nice to her, that I knew it drove her nuts.

I do the same thing. Especially when the person is so outwardly rude and impatient.

I have also been known to do this...back when I was a Cathohaulic, I sat down next to a lady who gave me a "D**n kids!" look. I looked her square in the face and said very loudly "GOOD MORNING!!!".

She didn't look at me again for a while...

when i'm out and about shopping, at resturants, etc i like to be friendly with the works, i usually say somthing that is not a normal response that they get to try and throw them off their feet, that and look right at them when you do it, they almost are never expecting it , it's fun and refreshing for both you and the person working

This whole post proves why I hate to shop, and that I'm not a people person.

It's funny you post this because I was thinking that people aren't their usual friendly selves as I remember from past holiday seasons. I always try and be nice, make small chit-chat and be helpful like hold the door, stop my car to let pedestrians cross, etc. Usually it seems that people are a little more social this time of year, but this year they have been annoying. Glad to know that others are having the same experience.

That reminds me, I still need to pick up a toy for Bear for his mission...just cuz others are having a crappy holiday doesn't mean those without need to suffer....

I hate people this time of year, being nice shouldn't be a one month a year things, practice it all year and your stress levels will go down!!!

I guess I should say SORRY, I didn't realize what a dick I am, but with all the things CC has done for me (geting my sawzall fixed when I really needed it, hooking up my gas line, stuff like that) I now see he is just trying to smother me with kindness, like the lady he did the quote for today...

It kinda makes me want to cry, then again that could be the pain in my back that has my out of work right now.

hey general,
it seems i have alot of the same type experiences at the grocery store as you do...although i tend to be in some sort of a controlled hurry, when i sense that life is speeding up, i like to slow down and just watch people freak out as they go by..its pretty amusing usually...

anyway a lil off topic...but i went to kroger yesterday evening and got in line of this lil oriental kid looked like he was 14 but he runs a register....he had to be about the happiest person working for kroger at that point...funny thing about it was the kid was working so fast that his average transaction time per customer was under a minute...and in that minute he would say and accomplish more than anyone else...could in five minutes....very out going very freindly and best of all very very fast....evil fast....

i felt like i had to tip him so i did...anyone else ever feel the need to tip their bagger or what not at the grocery store....
