Default Harley folks... WTF!?

I've never understood the whole attraction Harley bikes - other than the fact it allowed Hacksaw and Curt1656 to make a love connection - but that's a topic for another time.

Handlebars. What gives? I don't mean Ape Hangers that rise above shoulder level - I mean Ape Hangers that make it damn-near impossible to ride. Actually - my question isn't about Ape Hangers, it's about the latest (to me) handlebar "oddity" I've seen on a Harley.

No, I don't have pictures. I can't even find any in an image search.

Last week, I saw a dude riding a dressed out bike and he had flat bars on it. Bike looked pretty sweet - EXCEPT - the handlebars must have been at least FOUR FEET WIDE. Seriously. First time I've ever seen that and just wondering if this is another new trend to be on the lookout for.

All I could figure is that it's some new way to make drag pipes even fucking louder - to save more lives, of course.

Beach bars.

Gay AND retarded.

Worse than apes.

I like narrow drags or clip-ons myself. Close second would be dirt bike bars.

Wrong.

They are machines, they have no sexuality.

Harley riders, 'specially the 'look at me' one, gay as hell

That's why my Harley looks stock, and the rest of my bikes are jap, brit and italian.

No where did I mention it was GAY - that was Vannie.

I just think it is stupid.
As far as your whole DH fetish, I just think you're lazy.

The wide bars are gay if you back into them naked, repeatedly.

It's all about "the look" and/or to make a statement "look at me - I'm hardkore because I've made my bike borderline unrideable".

I get mini or midi apes - it's a more comfortable riding position on a cruiser bike. The ridiculously high ones I don;t get - and it looks like you have less control with many.

The beach bar thing - within reason, again - I get. I put a form of beach bar on my FLHR and it made it more comfortable by bringing them back further with no gain in width.

The "loud pipes" thing never really bothered me until my oldest son was teething. He hadn't slept in days and one afternoon I FINALLY got him to go to sleep.

Teething kids are nothing to be fucked with...they shit weird, develop rashes and raise insane hell. It's more than just teeth coming in.

30 minutes later, some fuckhead comes down my street, which is always beyond quiet, rolls up to the stop sign and revs the fukc out of his bike. I guess he just had to let all the non-existent traffic know he was around. Sure as shit, my kid is up screaming his ass off. Good job asshole. If I lived in the trailer park, I'd understand, but this is Norman Rockwell's neighborhood. Chachi and Fonzi don't hang out here.

He didn't sleep again until that night, I got to deal with his screaming all day.

My bike is loud, but I can ride it so that you would barely notice me going by. I leave for work at 6:30 in the morning, none of my neighbors has ever heard me leave.

The dudes rapping their pipes every time they stop are major d-bag small dick fags.

Agreed.

Open pipes can be quiet-ish, unless you're starved for attention.

I may have to watch the herley episode of southpark tonight.

It's funny, one of my neighbors was giving me shit the other day saying I had the quietest harley they had ever heard. I said.. well.. It's not that quiet I just don't ride it like a fuckbag in my neighborhood.

When I got out to the main street I got after it harder than I normally do. He laughed about it the next time I saw him.

X2

I had the stock quiet pipes... but people kept trying to merge into the side of me on the e-way. I swapped them and have not had that issue, but around town I don't rap on it. My neighbors have hardly heard my bike. I don't rap on it at stop signs either.

I remember (barely) when I got my endorsement, probably around 82 or 83.
Question on the test about max height of handle bars.
In Michigan, the handlebar height on motorcycles is restricted to 15 inches above the seat.

I don't care for the sound of most Harleys. I dont mind loud, but I can't stand noisy.
I had a Kaw 500 3 cylinder 2 stroke with tuned exspansion chambers. I remember hearing a buddy get on it when he took is for a ride, he was about a mile and a half as the crow flies away from the house.

But it was a sweet sound! Especially at idle. ringa dinga ding, rattle ping pop!!!

My 12 hp craftsman lawn tractor sounds like a harley at idle.
