Default thoughts on 01 3500 with 8.1/allison 150k

Truck was worked, think i can get a few trouble free years out of it doing local hauling and limited plowing?

Go!

my 01 with 8.1 uses a bit of oil, doesnt really smoke at all but it uses oil. i have 180k of hard miles on it and it still runs great.

ya, i heard thats expected with those, no trans work or anything though? any plowing with yours? i drove it engine runs suprisingly well, i did catch some hesitation when flooring once it but it seemed more like starved for fuel than trans. im guessing it is due for a fuel pump, been through enough on my 2500 and seemed similar

The only problem i see is the fuel economy,a good freind has a 01 crew long box,its a great truck, i love it.He love's it also, but bitches about the 8-9 mpg it gets. The truck is stock ,with exaust and a fipk.Im curious if this is typical fuel milage with the 8.1-allsion combo.I have replaced a ignition switch, fuel pump, both front window regulators. He had a solinoid go bad in the allison, fixed it for$150.

I owned one when they were new in `01. my front pump bushing went out at 4500 miles and they had to put in a trans at the dealer. only real trouble it had before I traded it for the H2. I pulled a trailer a couple time up north to Grayling and it did 10 1/2 mpg with that . 11-12 every where else

thanks guys, im gonna get it. fuel mileage doesn't scare me, and i have heard it gets better mileage than the 6.0 while being worked. I have a 94yj and an 01 2500hd needless to say, i purposely don't look at how much gas i am using lol
