That's actually not a bad place for them to be. Mine are the same on my ZJ. As the suspension compresses the axle moves backward more towards the center of the wheel well. The amount it moves can actually be pretty significant with short arms.

Anyways, OP sorry for the hijack good luck with the sale from one lifted ZJ owner to another.
