Default Holley truck avenger 670cfm-2

This carb came on my 396 when I bought it. There is not even 400 miles on the engine yet.

It started running really bad, so I decided to take a look at the carb:

Is this thing even worth rebuilding? Beside the crap that made it through the filter, the casting coating itself is flaking off. Now I'm wondering if I hurt the engin at all?

Wow. I have that same carb and have had nothing but good experiences (once I got it tuned). I don't want to insult you at all but are you sure you have a fuel filter before the carb, and aren't just relying on the screen in the float bowl? It kinda looks like rust or Coke, was it sitting outside uncovered? Give Holley a call about the casting coating, maybe they'll hook you up.
Beside the rusty coke, it looks to be in pretty good shape.

there was a small filter in line when I bought it, but I added an in-line the size of my head when it first started stumbling at high speed.

I ran a Holley TA in my CJ's mild 304. That carb was the best thing I ever did to my Jeep, I never saw that! What the hell is all that? That doesn't look like carb coating, what are you running through that carb? Did you add something to the gas or what???

If I remember, there was a recall on the early TA carbs that had an issue like that. If you had the receipt for the carb, I think they would replace it. Otherwise from what I've read, they'll give you a hell of a deal if you send it back to them.

In was on the motor when I bought the Jeep. (I did get the box it came in though)
This jeep only has between 300 and 400 miles on it since the motor was put in. Unfortunately, I don't know what the history is of the carb. I guess I will try to contact Holley.

There is honey colored stuff and white stuff in there, as well as the whole inside of the carb has the coating peeling off from it.

The Metering plates are beyond repair. I can almost push a screwdriver into them. The casting is severly split and breaking apart. The rest of the carb does not look to bad.

I'm going to try to contact Holley.

Yeah, tried that, ..........I'm not completely inept. I went on line and found the email contact, but was hoping somebody had a phone number.

Excuse me please for trying to remove one step from my busy life, and actually I have run across some people on this board that like to help out, so there was a precedence set.

Just talked to Shawn at Holley Tech Service.
2006 series castings had a fault. He appologized and asked me to ship it to him, and he would send me out a new carburator. Free of charge.
