Where are the cheaper Warn Winches made? I bought their receiver clevis mount over another one because the because the box said made in the USA. When I opened it the mount said made in Korea and the clevis was a cheap chinese one I am afraid to use. I sent Warn an E-mail and never got a reply but the boxes don't say made in USA anymore. The box was the only thing made here.
The Warn VR winches are assembled in Portland, OR along with all the other truck winches.

I have a 10k Chicago electric. I bought a warranty with it, so I might bring it back telling them its broken to get a newer one.

If you look at the warranty on the new cheaper Warn 8000 its not quite as good. I got my M8000 on sale with a mail in rebate and when it was said and done i got the winch for $480 shipped. Im impatient so it was worth the extra $$ for the WAY faster line speed

I bought one of the small cheap hf winch, Its been.used a few times works good for what it is,and has a wireless remote

I bought the extended warranty thinking I would burn it up in a year... Turns out I was wrong but for the extra $5 or 10 bucks it was cheap insurance if I ever had a problem with it,

I've been thinking of buying a hf badlands winch, because of the price, and seem pretty reliable, as far as line speed I'm not a professional rock crawler and could care less!! Lol

never owned a winch yet but is it possible to change gearing or voltage to get some speed out of it or will that just kill it faster?

I tried that, and they wouldn't give me a new one without adding cash since the winch I bought was discontinued. I got my 10k winch for just over $200 with it being on sale combined with a coupon. I bought the warranty, got the return authorization over the phone. .. They said they would only warranty the price I paid, not the actual product. So they wanted $300 out of my pocket to exchange my discontinued Chicago electric winch with a 12k badlands. I was pissed and made a small scene at the store.
The store was packed. I just kept saying to the manager, "so your saying that you don't warranty discontinued items..". "

Rob, are you saying they wanted to charge you $500 for the new winch? It's not really fare if they give you a $300 winch if yours only cost $200 but they should at least give you $200 towards the new one. ($200 minis the warranty obviously).

Every time I had something warranted that wasn't available, I just got the money I paid applied to anything I wanted. Can't get cash back but I didn't even have to buy a similar product.

They basically offered my store credit for what I paid for the winch, which I could apply toward a replacement. The comparable replacement was not on sale yet, and price at $599. My argument is that the warranty was supposed to replace my winch with another one. It's not my problem that they no longer carried my model. That's what they sold me on, that's what the warranty company told me.
I always thought a 2 year replacement warranty would be as it sounds.
Am I wrong in thinking that since I paid extra for the warranty, and made the claim within my warranty time, I should get a comparable replacement if the same model is not available.
That's the argument I made with the store manager in front of the jammed checkout area. Funny, the crowd was agreeing with me. They try selling that extended warranty for everything and people were laughing at them about it for the 20 minutes I was stuck standing there.

I work there, quit your whining. Thats why the system is there. The extended 2 year warranty which is a PRODUCT you pay for by itself, covers any accidental damage, any malfunction, almost anything- I wouldnt walk in and tell us you personally took a sledge hammer to it, but thats pretty much it. Plus the store still makes money off of it, so we have no issues swapping them every 2 years because they were "dropped" or they "started pulling slowly" etc. Thats the great thing about our warranty in comparison to competitors is if you get that warranty, you are actually covered, ive never seen anyone turned down or away for a warranty replacement item. If you use a screwdriver as a prybar and snap it in half, would you not bring it in to get it swapped out for free under the Pittsburg lifetime warranty? You get what you pay for, and when you pay to be covered, you're covered.

As far as why the 12k comes back-
Burnt out motor- said started winching slowly and started to give up
Snapped release handle- didn't feel like explaining that
Rust/mud/crap worked its way into the gears
Broken plastic electrical boxes

I've seen some that are just beat to hell and still running, its a good product.
Haven't had one come back (to my store at least) snapped or any kind of catastrophic malfunction.
Local tow businesses use them on their trucks for recovery, they're a damn good product for the price (keep in mind MSRP on it is $500 not 299, normal sale price is 399)

The best price ever offered on the 12000 # Winch is $299 with a coupon code you can get from the website and write it down and go buy it in the store. YES YOU NEED THE COUPON CODE. The current coupon code is not active for much longer- if it even still is? - but the 299 price will be back for the January Blow out sale, check your ad.

Also, everyone seems happy with the wireless remote, item number 69229. On sale right now as well for 24.99

Rob, I sent you a PM.

And to clear up confusion- The new badlands winch, is WAAAY better than the old chicago electric ones, or the ones with Green/ Camo paint.
