Default Let The Rioting Begin...

See http://starbulletin.com/2006/09/13/news/story02.html

So, lemme see...

A photo of an Iraqi POW in a dog collar and leash (while not professional or appropriate) results in worldwide outcry and massive condemnation from sources internal and external.

However, professionally-produced videos of US combatants being attacked / killed / maimed being hosted on a US-owned website generates ... nothing.

The hosting of these videos is at best distasteful and at worst seditious. And don't trot out the tired "first amendment" crap. Our armed forces are due the duty of protection from this sort of exploitation.

So, where's the condemnation of these videos? Should we start rioting and burning stuff (starting at YouTube)? Apparently Abu Gharib photos were ample and legitimate justification and acceptable excuse for all manner of bad behavior elsewhere.

no the whole problem is that we are "civilized nation" and we are not expected to act that way. They are thrid world country and do not know any better. Now that being said this is war and in war you do what has to be done and if that is what we need to do to break them down then that is what has to be done PERIOD. Just my two cents though

I agree that it's disturbing and offensive to be posting stuff like that on the internet but i don't see the parallel between this and the Abu Gharib photos. What upset people about the Abu Gharib photos wasn't that they were posted, nor even that they were taken in the first place, what upset people was abuses that they showed. In this case if you didn't know that our troops are being gunned down by snipers and blown up by bombs you need to pull you head out of the sand and see whats really happening.

What bothers me most is the apperent eagerness everyone seems to have for throwing away our bill of rights.

I'm far from advocating that we throw away the bill of rights.

However, not all speech is protected, i.e. the old story of yelling fire in a crowded theatre.

What I find most disturbing is that a U.S. company is knowingly hosting this enemy propaganda. It isn't about free speech - it's about knowing facilitating enemy propaganda in a time of war. Treason.

By the ages of our kids Bruce, the guys in those videos could be our kids in 2-3 years. We owe our folks under arms better than that.

Theres lots of propaganda coming from both sides. I'd rather be able to see what both side are saying and make up my own mind about where the truth lies. Having kids that are nearing the age of military service makes me feel even stronger about wanting to know the truth rather than just accepting what I'm told by the government.

x2

And throwing out terms like we are at war, and its treason, is again, misleading. We aren't at war, #1, and if you are advocating that non-government approved speech should be supressed during war, then you need to go to florida, and take a boat a few miles south. Seems more like what you reall ywant from your government.

Want to worry about your kids if they are in the military, then listen to Colin Powell... The policies of this govt are endangering our servicemen. We should all be nervous when your president wants to re-interpret the geneva convention.

Frankly, if there was another that acted like the US, we'd all have our panties in a bunch over what they do..
