Hahaha Advanced Auto Retards

Guy comes in with an accelerator pump diaphragm, says he needs one, I walk out and grab one off the shelf. He then tells me the the Guy at Advanced Auto thought it was a speaker. I hear a lot of horror stories about them, but this one made me laugh really hard.

I have a good one. About 5 years ago i had a 93 ford explorer sport with a manual transmission. My clutch went out so i call advanced to get a price.

Me - Hi i need a clutch for a 93 ford explorer sport 4wd with the 4.0.

Advanced auto employee - Is that clutch for a manual or automatic?

Me - I am sorry but i think your not going to be able to help me, have a nice day. (click)

I was born in 84 lol, I was a Murray's tard for 3 years, got Hired into a ma and pa old school type Auto Value, and realized I didn't know Shit. After a few years there I would consider myself a pretty Damn good parts guy, whether it from the 30s, agricultural, medium duty, heavy duty, motorcycle, ATV, trailer, jeep/Chevy/ford/sterling Frankenstein I can usually find if it is available through one of my warehouses. Yea I'm awesome.

i work at one of the major auto parts stores... lets just say i'd rather spend my money on a ma and pa shop, pay a little bit more, and get the right part. corporate auto parts stores are a joke.

I have given people at the counters the part number i need and they will still give me the wrong shit.

Thankfully we have Bramer's up here which is a family run Napa and these guys can find me a bastard joint in 2 minutes or less with their books. Anytime i have gone to advanced in a pinch for a bastard joint they just bring out an armful of u joints and start comparing.

I bet if you priced out 100 parts we would be right at if not lower then the big box auto parts store. We run a price margin across the board, all of them sell really common parts cheap, but if you have something a little weird or old they will Rape you with their prices. And I don't miss Corporate at all. Greasemonkey doesn't like us for some reason, he dislike us before I worked there, which I understand, since there was a Baby raper drunk druggie, and a drug dealing drug addict working there before I started. Now we have no druggies, or sex offenders working there. And we all know our shit.

Yeah but can you give me a 1310 u-joint without asking me what vehicle it's for? I hate that shit. Bring in a Timken bearing with the part number on it and they ask what vehicle.

Most of the guys at the Advance Auto on Bristol Road in Flint are pretty smart. They've got a couple new guys that are a little slow last I heard, but I've never had a problem with them and I can tell them what I need without always having to look it up by car.

I did that with an old trailer I had, it used a 1938 Buick front axle. Knowinbg full well that would not be in the computer I brought the wheel bearing with me to Perp Boys. Timken Part number clearly visible, they still wanted to know what vehicle. I told the it was a trailer, they showed me where the trailer parts aisle was- I said no, it is using a passenger car front axle. Puzzled look. Told them I was pretty sure it was from a 1938 Buick. Another puzzled look and then "They made Buicks 100 yearts ago?"

I left.

I work out of an O'Reilly's in Waterford - I'm sure we get our fair share of horror stories, but I will say the Autozone down the street makes me a lot of money. They can't seem to do shit right, and will actually send people to our store now. Specially when it comes to motorcycle plugs and filters.

The only reason I do as good as I do, is because I worked 5 years in an Aviation parts department supporting 22 aircraft, the newest made in the 1960's. So I got good at finding stuff just off of numbers and dimensions. And the occasional "It's that black thing ontop of the valve that does all of that stuff."
