Default trailer brake prob. I'm at a loss

Noticed when I hauled a truck home a couple days ago the drum on the D's of trailer was to hot to touch but other side is warm not hot. Pulled apart and D's def is doing most of the work cleaned and readjusted the brakes and tested and same thing. Pulled apart again last night and checked the voltage to each magnet and both read what my brake controller is set to in my truck. Everything is clean and adj it all again. Same thing D's is really hot. I am not sure were to go from here I loosen the D's up less then passenger and still hot and the trailer is empty and only ran it 4 miles. I run my controller at 3.5 any ideas? Thanks guys. Need fixed for blessing and its coming fast.

I did check it only ground I see on it is a screw were on PS above the axle to frame and there is 2 white wires 1 from the truck and. 1 that goes down to axle . I will run a new ground wire to each brake.

That's what is odd there is only 1 hot and 1 power that goes to the axle so they are sharing the wires. So both should be working even. If ground was a prob I would think both wouldn't work. Is it possible 1 magnet is stronger than other?

Check the strength of the magnet's if you have a meter with an ohm's scale they should be the same. I have had one go bad and found that to be the problem. Also check all connections on both magnet's make sure they are tight

dumb idea? is it possibly a bad bearing heating up, and mabey not a brake issue?
random thought, had to throw it out there.

assuming it is a brake issue, hard wire the grounds back to the main ground at the tongue.
we never ground anything to the trailer frame on any of our snowmobile trailers anymore.
just too many ground issues, even worse on tilt trailers too.
we never use any connectors on anything either. every connection is soldered.

if the power wires run through the inside of the axle tubes, they can chafe and short out inside there.

def not a bearing issue i am one of them guys who grease it all the time and they look like new. i did alot of checking this weekend. both magnets have 3.6 oms. it is grounded well. the main grounf from tongue runs to a bolt on frame above axle from there i have another wire going from that bolt to the brakes so more or less its a dirrect ground. the drums dont feel like there out of round at all. so now im at a total loss. i am going to buy new brake shoes/ plates dexter style and ditch my anco style setup and hope that fixes the prob. really makes no sence everything checks out and both sides have the same amps going to the magnet as brake controler says.

I had problems with mine for awhile till I finally found they were shorting out in there. they can test fine sitting there but when you are going down the road they could be wiggling around and shorting. even if they are fine might be a good idea to get them out of there for future probs.

Any grease on the inside of the drum where the magnet rides? Or rust?

You don't have two driver side brakes do you? They are side specific.

re ran new wires through the axle tube last night also re did all the brake wire on trailer and ran them in 12awg wire and grounds. put on new dexter backing plates but ran old drums, trailer still gets that 1 drum hot. so tonight i will be putting on new drums and also bought new backing plates and drums for my other axle also now. hopefully this fixes it and drums were warped a little otherwise i give up everything is going to be new now.

Swap the drum to the other side and see what happens then you can rule out if its the drum or the brakes

One drum got glowing hot on my trailer yesterday while taking it to the storage lot.

The inner part of the drum that holds the inner bearing broke and was riding on the brakes, only noticed it because it started to groan at a stop light and then a guy next to me told me it was burning up. So glad I made it home from Twisted Trails without an issue.

Check the drum and wheel bearings.

well finally she's all fixed it appears that was the drum itself and must have gotten hot and be slightly oval.I decided just to do four wheel drums and pads so now a trailer has dual breaking axles so should be better for towing in the long run anyway thank you guys again for all your advice and input maybe see some of you guys at the blessing
