Default Project 1971 CJ5

Sold my XJ a couple weeks ago and picked up this new project .

A 1971 CJ5 ..... The past owners replaced the old Dauntless V6 with a Chevy 4.3 V6 . It is right up to and thru the firewall. ( I will cut away the area and fab some new sheet metal for enough clearance to work on it . )

I hope to !

a. Replace the steering system with something more modern and powered .
.... Tilt wheel column , forward mounted gearbox , and linkage clearance for the exhaust .
b. Power brakes ... and disc brakes on fronts
c. Heat .... no heater core or lines .
d. Wiring .... replace hole wiring harness ! ( Everything is cut and cobbled together now )

Already got newer springs for it (4" lift )... will be putting them on soon ( old ones broken)

If anyone has any constructive ideas , I would love to hear them !

OK ... so I have the front clip off the CJ ....
I have two imidiot things I want to work on !

1. ..... I want to convert the manual brakes to power .
I have a booster , master cylinder , porportioning valve , and mount for the booster ... But now for the first major set back . The CJ has clutch and brake pedels that pivot thru the floor ! I am sure I will need to get a newer set-up that swings from above . But now how do I configure the clutch linkage for this ????? ... I have been thinking of going to a automatic trans ....but that leaves more questions ... T-400 or T700r4 ??? and what t-case do I use with that set up , that will work with the older style Dana 27 ???

2. ..... Steering column / power steering ..... I want to get rid of the rickitty old set-up that has the gear box mounted to the frame at the firewall , then runs a shaft forward to a pivot . I also will be putting in a steering column in out of a early 80's CJ or XJ that has tilt !
Anybody done this before or have some good ideas for it ?

most auto trannys are gonna be real long for that jeep and 4" lift.
go with a hydro clutch for it. get a pedal assembly from a newer cj.
