rancid meat from meijers

i bought a preseasoned pork tenderloin from meijers and the sell by date was august 14th. it smelled a little bit different but i didnt know if it was from the seasonings they put on there or what. i cut a little chunk off the end and tryed it and it tasted awful. i sliced it open to look at it and the meat looked like a sponge. it smelled like rotting road kill after it was cut open. went to meijers today and they didnt sound like they were going to pull anything off the shelf. they said they were going to visually inspect the packages which would tell nothing. they gave me my 8 bucks back and a 5 dollar gift certificate and the managers exact words were "sorry for your luck."

Sounds about right. I worked in one for my first job - Felt like no one there, all of the way up to the store manager, gave a shit past being there to collect their paycheck.

Sounds like they need a better inspection policy, but no matter what, unless you're paying top dollar for "killed this morning", there will always be bad food products.

i spend 90% of my time working in the food intustry, any where from slaughter houses to process plants. i know exactly how filthy and unsanitary those places can be.

I have seen packaged meat on dry shelves more than once at Meijers. More than likely it got all warm and some nightshift worker put it back with the other refrigerated meats lol

As close as you are, you need to buy your edibles from Birds Meat Market south of M82 on Cypress in Newago county. Trust me on this, I'm a fat guy.

Most of the time, people will shop there for groceries, then go and get a gallon of paint, see a new mailbox they want, and throw the meat on the shelf wherever they feel like it. Restocking comes along and returns the meat to stock, and then you buy it.

You didn't eat enough to get sick. You got your money back plus an extra $5.00. Do you want the manager to suck your dick to? Quit your bitching and go shop somewhere else.

its just the fact that what if it wasnt him what if a different family used it as a roast and gave it to their children. there could have been a potential danger. just kind of shitty to deal with.

Not an employee and don't own any of their stock unless maybe it's mixed into my 401a or my wife's 401k.

Who knows? Maybe the manager went back and checked with the meat department after the OP left. The Chad just came off as some whiney entitled complainer in the first post.

I worked in a meat department in a grocery store in highschool. To this day I avoid buying "managers special" items. If it was expired and smelled fine it would be repacked with a new date and a manager special sticker. Gross. Which was weird on how meticulous they were about sanitation and cutting the meat.

Meat doesn't look like that after getting left out for a day. When I sliced it it looked like a sponge. This got contaminated a while ago which I would guess happened at the slaughter house or the place where they put the marinade in and package it. This means it very well could not be the only one. I am pissed about there lack of care for someone else's health!

I usually get my meat at birds but once in a while if I just need something for supper that night I will buy at meijer if I am there already.

Meijer doesn't typically cut their pre-packaged meats open to check for freshness, they leave that up to the packaging plants. Who knows, your meat could have been left in the garden center for a week, under a grow light for good measure. MMMM MMMMM GOOOD!
