Maybe thier hippy ways included not having a bank? Plus that's just strategic. If they don't have the money in a bank account the Government can't say "You have to much money".

Either way , it's ridiculous. They should be able to restrict what you can/cannot buy with a bridge card. They can do it with WIC, why not food stamps?

Also, I don't agree with Student loans. Grants and scholarships are fine but I HATE how we're taught that Student loans are normal. Next thing we know we'll tell our kids that racking up 30,000 in Credit card debt to "better them selves" is a good thing. BUT, I'm a strict Dave Ramsey follower and he is against debt.

It's probably only a dent in the scope of welfare use/abuse, but it's a good start.

yeah, until you live with someone who has a gluten intolerance or full blown celliacs disease and you see what eating the wrong food does to them.

I don't want to pay for his gf, but suggesting she doesn't eat food is ignorant.

I don't disagree about not paying her bill. But saying she just shouldn't eat her "special food" is retarded.

I call BS in the whole never seen a bridge card in Whitehall thing.
Been there lots of times this summer and seen the card used in a few places, including white duck.
There are very few places that don't take it and its not like the bridge card looks much different than any other transaction card.

This disgust me that any college student would qualify for this. Yes i was fortunate to go to school, and yes my parents helped way more than i realized then. But i did realize then i went to school with some who worked 2 or 3 jobs to not only pay for school but to pay for stuff that was handed to me...food, shelter and transportation. That was humbling and hard to swallow, but I admire to this day their work ethic and desire to make it alone. I wouldn't say they deserve a handout more than the current because i know they wouldn't accept it. Very admirable to turn down a handout.

I love how all these fucktard college kids are crying "Unimpossible!!11!! I cannot afford to pay for school and go to school and not have a bridge card for my shrimp dinners!!"

What is so complicated about it? There are plenty of ways to make it, on your own, without a bridge card...don't take summer classes, work two jobs, and save every penny. Eat grilled cheese and egg sandwiches for every meal through out the year...repeat (hopefully only) 4 times.

I made it through school, on my own, without a bridge card...stop fucking ME because YOU are a lazy POS

Michigan Department of Human Services Director Maura Corrigan tells The Detroit News for a story published Monday that's about twice as many as officials expected and it's expected to bring about $75 million a year in savings.

The state earlier announced that beginning in April students must show "true need" to reap benefits from the program. Officials say Michigan previously had created its own rules that made nearly all students eligible for aid that's commonly known as food stamps.

Corrigan says it's part of an effort to change the culture of the state's welfare department and slash tens of millions of dollars of waste, fraud and abuse."

We finally got something right.

Now they need to go down the line and continue kicking fraudulent bastards off the government tit.

Cause taking away college students' bridge cards is so much more important than taking away the cards of the deadbeat piece of sh*t bastards that get a bridge card because they can, hell they're already getting welfare and don't think they need to get a real job (ie. got knocked up because a condom is too expensive) and buy a little debbie snack and get $100 cash back ( i know, it's welfare side not stamps, same difference to me) then come back in the store and buy two 30 packs and cigs.

Yea, way to go michigan government

Good For you!

There are some college students that use the bridge card properly. For instance my friend who is a Single mom goign through college while struggling to find a job that works with her class, and her daughters' class, schedule. Just because you did it doesn't mean everybody can.

I am not against some people having he card. It just seems to me that there are a whole lot of them out there that just don't NEED it.

The elderly should have it, along with the ill and some single parents, I'm not even against the family who lost a job and is genuinely looking for another one.
Unfortunately, as I have seen with my own eyes, this isn't most peoples situation.

WTF, how do you figure? Majority of the elderly folks I know are doing just fine....they get social security, medicare/medicaide (I always confuse the two) and most (I realize not ALL) have pensions. There are certain elderly folks that certainly could use/need one but to make a blanket statement and say they all do....

+1. I hear about this so much. I vote, ban for life if you do sell it. Or just get rid of the program and no one will have to bitch about it.
