Default 30,000 say good bye to the bridge card. =)

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- "Michigan says it has removed about 30,000 college students from its food assistance program since it began enforcing federal guidelines this spring.

Michigan Department of Human Services Director Maura Corrigan tells The Detroit News for a story published Monday that's about twice as many as officials expected and it's expected to bring about $75 million a year in savings.

The state earlier announced that beginning in April students must show "true need" to reap benefits from the program. Officials say Michigan previously had created its own rules that made nearly all students eligible for aid that's commonly known as food stamps.

Corrigan says it's part of an effort to change the culture of the state's welfare department and slash tens of millions of dollars of waste, fraud and abuse."

We finally got something right.

Now they need to go down the line and continue kicking fraudulent bastards off the government tit.

State stats say there are 1.9M people using a bridge card right now.
I wonder how many of those are ripping all of us off...

I always thought that was BS that college kids could get a bridge card....god forbid they get a part time job or get loan money that they'd have to pay back later. I'm not particularly proud of the amount of student loan debt I have but at least everything came out of my own pocket.

Hell, had they just implemented mandatory drug tests for everyone I bet it would've disqualified a lot of college students too.

Bout' time. When I was in school a few years back, fuckers would work to buy beer and then go buy shrimp/lobster/T-bones on their bridge card.

Most of them took the "I pay into it" or the "Everyone else does it" mantra when I'd call them out, too.

News flash! Going to the bar 5 nights a week can easily be replaced with a job.

student loan debt is nothing to be ashamed of. You found a way to better yourself, I've seen your resume, your student loan debt will be paid off in time, and your resume shows the hard work you put in.

Finally. I used to see kids at Ferris that would take out as much student loans as possible, buy crotch rockets or cars and still be using a bridge card. Fucking parasites.

me and the gf have used it!!! for like 3 months then we made to much moneys!! And it was a huge help, she was laid off and i was only working part time. But they only gave us $130 a month. Survived off hamburger helper the whole time lol. It always pissed me off how much i put in and then when i truly needed the help i got the bare minimum.

But 99.9% of people abuse the hell out of it!! Especially the money side (which i never got or wanted) Hell i didnt want the food stamps but it helped me alot.

^This is how the program was meant to work.^ The problem is how many people think it is a lifestyle.

I've heard people say on welfare say things like "They dont pay me enough".
I've quickly correct them by letting them know that pay comes from a JOB, where you perform a service and receive money as compensation.

Why haven't we implemented a work for welfare policy yet? Is there something wrong with that?

No there is nothing wrong with that, and there is plenty of work to be done.

There sure as hell is!
Simply picking up the trash from the streets, parks, beaches and mowing all the empty lots in town would keep most of them busy all week.
