Default Getting into the dunes

Im headed to silver lake july 8-10. My xj isnt plated or insured or anything so i cant drive it into the park, and im sure it will be extremely busy and damn near impossible to get a parking lot voucher so i can trailer it into the park. So my idea is: build a tow bar that attaches to the D ring tabs on my front bumper, and have one of my buddys with a street legal truck drag it into the parking lot, un hook me, toss the tow bar in the back of the truck and take off on the dunes.
Is this legal/ allowed? Would i just need a dune ready voucher? Is there an easier was of getting in that doesnt include plating and insuring my jeep?

I don't know the answer to your question but I have one to add to this.

The park rangers aren't police officers, so even if you drove your "not street legal" machine right up to the booth, can they really not let you in as long as street cops don't pull you over first?

Seems like if you can make it from a local parking lot to the dunes without getting pulled over you should be able to drive right into the park.

I doubt you will make it, I wouldn't try.

If you have a tow bar and functioning turn signals/trailer lights, just like you were flat towing you will probably be ok.

Not gonna lie, the thought crossed my mind of throwing my truck plate on the jeep and cruising in. But if i were to get caught, that could end VERY badly, it would put an end to my weekend in a hurry. Im leaning towards making a tow bar and dragging it in, but i still dont know if that would just require a dune ready voucher? I wouldnt have a plate number to write on a dune ready voucher..

niether do the quads that go in. ill give the voucher station a call and see what they say. we're also gonna need to either make it so your lights hookup to my truck or have magnetic lights to stick to the side of your jeep.

I wouldn't buy lights. If your towing from a camp ground I’m sure you could simply sit in it and use the turn signals and light up the brake lights.

I dont know the laws.. but it seems like it would be illegal to ride in it as its being towed..

Plus, I imagine its legal to ride in the vehicle being towed with a tow bar cause it'd be safer that way. You'd have control of the vehicle, so that way you'd be able stop and turn it.

Hmmm...then you would be operating a vehicle on a public road with an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, would seem to me....

Tow bar- yes
trailer- not too bad that week- especially M-F (and no vouchers needed at that time)
strap- will get you pulled over
chain- don't even think about it.....

Just ride in it. I imagine if you get pulled over the officer will just tell you that you can't ride in it.

Just use a tow bar to get into the dunes. If the vehicle towing you in is dune ready you can get in with a dune ready voucher

It's illegal to ride in a vehicle on tow, if the tires touch the road it needs a plate. Farm equipment and coupling devices (dollies) are the only exception.

Why not plate it and throw PLPD insurance on it?
