Default Pregnancy labor induction

So wife is 42 weeks pregnant, with our first. We came into the hospital at 7am for induction to begin.

It's now 3:20pm and she still isn't feeling any contractions nor has she dilated past one yet. We already know the baby is big (they estimated at the ultrasound 2 weeks ago 9lbs 10 oz).

She's on the oxytocin and had some capsule thing done, any tips that you guys have had help move things along?

Well, being that this forum is full of certified doctors, I'm sure you'll have the exact answer in no time. Those ninnies at the hospital obviously need a new profession.

Edit: I'm sorry to hear you're stressed about it, but I can't imagine what you're going to do with any (somewhat intelligent) responses you'd get from here. Good luck though and congrats! Only at 23 weeks here.

I don't. But a friend of mine in 35 weeks and the baby is over 7lbs. They're inducing next week. They ran some tests and found out that he's already fully developed and can come out.

My first was like 16 hours. That included giving my wife petocin (sp?) to move things along.
Good luck

*shurg*... it can take a long time. My wife was in (induced) labor for 27 or so hours before they did a C-section.

FWIW, C-sections aren't all that bad. Just stick to your side of the curtain

If they induced her this morning with Petocin then it is happening. Just give it time, and get your catchers mitt ready

My daughter was 20 hours.
Maybe you are having a daughter too and she just wants to be fashionably late.

Actually not stressed, surprisingly.

The nurses/doctors here are wonderful(Bronson Kzoo), I was looking more for dads who have been thru it thoughts on what seemed to work, walking/baths/position ect. The nurses basically just say it all works lol

My wife was induced at 9am, water broke at 4:30 the first day. She was also over due. She NEVER dilated past 5. The kid was face up with his head cocked and it did not allow things to proceed as planned.

We finally had him 12:30am the next day. They won't let you go more then 26-27 hours before making you go C-Section. In my wife's case she really didn't have a choice due to his position.

In our case they were off on the weight, as he was estimated at 7lbs over a month before she was induced. He was 7lbs 1 oz when he was born over a month later.

They just want her changing positions a lot, you don't want to end up in 'back labor' for whatever reason.
I had free reign of the c-section room for pictures. If your not squeemish I highly recommend looking over the curtain, its pretty freaking cool when they lift the head out.

Ah. I've haven't been through it yet, but imagined that the medical staff would probably be using whatever methods they know works. Anyway, good luck!

My wife went through the same thing. She went into the hospital at 8pm and didn't end up having our son until 11pm the next day. It would have been longer but the epidural wore off, she kept pushing but he wouldn't come, she wanted more epidural, doctor refused, Long story short, the only way she could get something for pain was for her to have c-section, and that's what happened. My son was about the same size 9lbs 8oz.

Michelle used the birthing ball a little bit. She also said walking and taking a cool shower helped too.

Dr. just came in and broke her water, they said to expect it to move along faster now.

My wifes water broke at home at 6.30am and they induced her at about 4 pm the same day. She was in labor till 3am and then they did a c-section. They wont let her go longer than 24 hrs after being induced. Get some rest while you can, eat plenty and drink lots of fluids, cause you will not be able to do so once the little one gets here. Relax and congrats.
