Default VIN on a title wrong

So I sold a motorcycle to a dude in Ohio. He came here and picked it up then called me yesterday. He said that the VIN on the bike and the one on the title do not match. He said the OH SOS or whatever they have didn't offer much help, said it mite have to come back to Mi but unsure. The problem is that the title is missing a K, bike's VIN goes 'CB750K*******', title says 'CB750********'. I checked my registration I have for the bike and no K, the insurance I have for it has the K (I read the VIN off to the person over the phone for that).

Its easy to imagine that the K was just accidentally left out but how do I fix this? Dude wants to get the title in his name obviously and I am trying to help. Can I get the title back and go to the SOS and get that fixed without needing the bike? Im not going to get the bike and do this and he is not coming all the way back here (4+ hours away)

Unfortunately, you need a cop to verify the VIN in Michigan. Don't know about Ohio. I'd say just tell him to get the title and fukc the K

Bloomule is right. Ive worked in dealerships since I was 16. Pretty common to find VINs and titles/registrations that dont match (Especially on older stuff like that). Seems like they wernt as thorough on such things in the past as they are now

I had a motorcycle that the title was off one letter. I had to go to the sheriff department and they verified it and I went back to the SOS and got my title.

Tell him to do the same.

When he goes to transfer the title from MI to OH they will come out and verify that the VIN matches the vehicle. Since its just missing a letter and not something that would make you think the title and bike don't belong together they might correct it, but I could also see them requiring it to be right prior to transferring it. I'd have him call them or just take the title in and ask about it.

EDIT: Oh I guess if I could read you said he already talked to them...
