4L60E lock-up issue

8-8-11 update in post #8

My newly aquired '95 S10 4x4 has some trans lock-up issue, and trans workings arn't one of my strong points. It unlocks very easily on slight grades in the road and jumps in and out sometimes on hills. WOT shifts are fine, nice and easy take offs I need to let up on the throttle to allow it to shift, if I dont let up, it takes longer than normal to finally shift. Would this be a torque converter going out, or a lock-up solenoid? Unfortunately, the fluid looks like it's never been changed in it's 195k miles. I'm undecided on changing it, would fresh fluid help the lock-up issue, or loosen up the trans to the point of slipping?

I would take it or talk to someone that knows what the hell there doing to have it looked at. To answer your second question, I wouldn't change the fluid. In my experience with transmissions it will most likely not help and maybe even make it worse. As a matter of fact I've seen signs at transmission repair places that say not to change the fluid because I guess it helps them tell what went wrong if the old fluid is in there.

OBDI, not a lot of help in that system. The cel doesn't come on other than at start up.

what motor is in it? TBI or CPI 4.3? if your TPS is not working correctly it can cause late shifts, as can your VSS. do you have the computer under the hood above the coolant overflow tank?

TBI, no comp over the tank. The main issue isn't so much the late shift, but the in and out of the lock-up. There has been a few times when I start up a small incline and the lock-up will go in and out 2-3 time within a couple seconds.

This has started to slide into a 3-4 upshift issue now. Having to let off the throttle and let it shift, then ease back in. Driving this morning it wouldn't shift into OD at all. When it sounded like it might have gone into 4th, an ever so slight increase in load would cause it to go back to 3rd and rpm's to rise. Also got a CEL this morning too when this happend, havn't gotten that b4.
