Boat weight rating question

OK, When the label in a boat says 4 persons OR 570 lbs? Does that mean if I have three people in the boat that weigh over 570 lbs that I don't comply? Confused.

Yes, 4 person or 570 pounds, whichever comes first.

first this should be moved but here ya go simple and straight forward for you

the old coast guard standards was from back in the 50's or 60's and the AVERAGE adult weighed ALOT LESS... using your numbers around 140 lbs per person. They are actually upping those numbers shortly if it hasn't been done already to around 180-190 per person.

so in answer to your question yes if you are OVER the weight you are out the safe operation of that vessel and if something happens its on you not the boat maker

if they want to be a prick about it yes you can get a ticket for unsafe boating.

guessing on a boat that small though this is a none issue, as they would have to make each of you step on a scale to prove your over the limit. normally its a head count and make sure your not over the recommended hp rating

The weight rating describes the boat's ability to carry weight - people or otherwise.

If boat appears overloaded to a point that safety is affected (i.e. riding dangerously low in the water) you can be cited - regardless of number of occupants.
