At lower RPM, your 6.0 is probably 100 ft lbs less than the turbo motor.

Its really similar to what dodge did with the 1st SRT4s. Real small turbos, they spool up down in the low RPMs, and then computer controls the boost based on rpm and environment to artificially create a flat torque curve. Very much like a diesel. My SRT4 felt much more like a V8, than a turbo 4.

How about a twin turbo 5.0 V8?

With them pushing towards 56MPG by 2025, I wouldn't count out diesels..

No doubt a TT 5.0 would be awesome. I agree on the diesels - there's a ton of research going on there right now. The biggest limiting factor (IMO) is public perception of diesels. People who know cars know that they aren't dirty, smoke and soot-spewing polluters, but no one has really done a very good job of explaining and convincing the general public of that.

People that dont maintain their stuff deserve for their vehicles to fail, no matter what it is, period. You cant judge reliabilty of anything off some lazy asses habit of not taking the time to change oil, etc over the years. thats obnoxious.

My dad is pulling his jeep out to South Dakota with his ecoboost in a couple weeks. I will let you know what mileage he ends up getting.

Exactly. I think the Ecoboost V6 is an awesome engine and it will definitely get better. There's always a risk with a QRD-wise with a new engine too. With the extra cost up front for the V6, I would probably go with the V8.

Wait, so first, you are taking Ford advice from a GM employee?

Second, what the report says is that you get a ton more power and performance with zero loss.

Compare it vs the 6.2 motor which is much more similar in terms of towing capability.

My father just got a new Ford. He told me the Eco-boost has had some turbo problems. I think he said something about the Ethanol in fuel being a problem. Do they say nothing over 10% Ethanol or something? Aren't other states already over that? I believe Florida is at 12% Ethanol.

I dunno, just passing on unsubstantiated rumors.

IIRC, the feds were pushing 15% but it got shot down. Still 10% in Michigan, not sure what other states are at.

I figured I would update you on how my dads F150 Ecoboost did pulling his jeep out to South Dakota and back. He scaled in at 14,180 lbs with truck and trailer/jeep. He averaged for the trip around 12-12.5mpg pulling around 70mph most of the way. This is 1-2mpg better then he use to get pulling with a 5.4

He also mentioned that the low end power is considerably better than the 5.4. It pulled it at 1800rpms in 6th gear and rarely downshifted on larger hills. Crazy for a little 3.5 liter V6......

I've been reading a lot about these on the camper forums. I haven't seen anyone disappointed in one yet.

my dad got one 2 weeks ago and gave it to me to an hour later to figure everything out and teach him. So much for new car smell lol, took it to a structure fire 12 hours after he got it. Still waiting to rack up 1000 miles to take it for a test tow.
