Default UAW leadership question

Anyone here find it interesting that of ALL the different types of people we have here, rednecks, inbreds, hillbillies, toothless fucks, college kids, a couple college graduates, union workers, non union workers, feminists, liberals, repubs, dems, socialists, communists, conservatives, cops, plumbers, old guys, etc........

We have all sorts of union threads, some bashing the unions, some supporting the unions. I have not once, ever in my entire time here seen someone say "I'm a UAW leader and this is how it really is" or I'm a UAW this and at my plant, or on my shift, or my workers, or whatever....

Are they afraid to come out?
Are they told they aren't allowed to talk outside of work?
Are they just so out of touch with the real world that they don't have any sort of hobbies like this?

We have some union workers, auto guys, laborers, guys who have to deal with the union, skilled trades, etc. But no one willing to admit they are a UAW leader of any sort.....

That's because all the union leaders are too busy working and protecting the rights of the workers to come and waste time posting here.

I could have my president come by and chat you up if you just need to argue? he is as long winded as they come and knows how to steer a conversation in his favor. even the rederic around here wouldn't ruffle his feathers

My guess is most are embarrassed and ashamed to admit that. Would you not be ashamed to admit you are a worthless human being working for a group that is not really needed anymore in most circumstances. Knowing you take union dues from some hard working folk and some jack fawks and then basically get a fat paycheck for doing much of nothing for said people. I could go on and on with this.

Bottom line though is i would not want anyone to know i sold my soul to the devil and have a job that pays me well with money taken from the hardworking union members that i do not do much of anything for and the lazy jack ass union members who can thank me for still having a job and the fact they get paid the same as the hard working people.

Not all union employees are garbage but most that are more than a union rep tend to have a i do not give a fukc attitude.

There likely aren't any on here.

I'm in a Union. I go to work, don't bother anybody and get along with those above and below me...even if I don't care for them. I've never filed a grievance, never had to use the union to get out of any stupid bullshit and I don't drink or get high at work.

I never asked to be in one, but that's the job I have. I like my job and I'm happy to even have one, so I go to work and do what is asked of me without any hassle. I've always had the same work ethic whether I've been in a union or not, do what I'm paid to do.

You don't hear about the 90% that go to work and do their job, just the ones drinking 40's and smoking crack at the park while on lunch.

Any workplace has their share of fuckups...it just takes much longer to get rid of them in a union shop.

By longer, you mean fucking impossible.

That's one of the things I disliked the most about my old job, it was impossible to fire people who didn't do their jobs basically. It was incredibly frustrating and stressful to have to make up for their short comings. Pay scales based solely on length of employment also suck. People who deserve a good and deserve more can't get it, and people who don't deserve to make what they do, still get paid it.

Where I work we don't get paid more for being there longer, but I remembered another thing that sucks about unions in general.

The only reason I work as hard as I do is personal work ethic.
There is ZERO incentive for me to care about working hard when I know I can slack off totally and still get paid as much as the hardest worker in the place.

You can't reward people for their hard work or solving a major problem if the pay scales are fixed and regulated so rigidly.

If only 90% are doing their job, then that may be a problem.

its amazing how many talk big about what the unions aren't doing? I can't say they are perfect by any means but without them the base wages in this country would be way lower then they are. if you look back about 80 years ago when the car companies wanted nothing to do with them they cared nothing for the employees and didn't give two shits if you got sick or died. they'd replace you over night, you didn't have a job to come back to. I see the same thing now out in Cali where my pal was running a Astro cap manufacturing facility. they have illegals lined up out front waiting for their spot. if someone doesn't show they grab the next guy in line.
As for what the union has done for me?
I am off on a medical right now. I am getting 95% of my pay garrentied for 70 working days. after that it goes to 65%. I also have a job to go back to.
say what you want, but but after the dust settles I will stick it out with the union. they have more going for them then you know.

80 years ago unions were needed and they did GREAT things for this country. Today, not so much. Now they protect the worthless and demand wages that far exceed market value. You should be guaranteed a job when you return from your medical because you are WORTH IT AND THEY WANT YOU BACK, not because your union says so.

I agree with Fatty Matty, I am in a union and do my job and try to make the company i work for better. There are people that work there that don"t give a shit and could care less. It happens everywhere. But i have been in a few meetings where the guy getting wrote up did not really do anything wrong and the manager did not want to take any heat for what happened. In any business you have to hold people accountable for their actions, alot of the times when you see or here stuff about people being lazy or drinking ect. It boils down to the fact the manager is not addressing the situation and holding people accountable and not doing the job of managing properly.

I normally agree with you, but i dont here. Big companies dont give a damn about their employees or laws in many cases. If unions went away in this economy especially i think we would be right back there. Of course my old company is that type of place, and it wasn't a big company.

I'm no or , nor am i union, but even if i was i wouldn't bring it up on this board just because of some of the type of people we have here. EX tctrojan. Why would someone want to, when 25 people are going to jump on the bandwagon calling them a piece of shit?

Non union workers get the same things in my experience. When Mike was out for his back he got almost 90% of his pay anyway, because you get 65% of your income untaxed for 3 months and then you switch to long term which is the same for an indefinite period of time.
You are paying dues to get the same thing I get as a non union person. I pay zero in dues.
