Default Big thank you to Howell Discount Tire

I had some 45 series tires switched over on our Saab's summer wheels - wanted to keep the "old tires" to put on some other rims for local auto-x fun. The bead breaker took out the sidewall on one of my old tires and the manager (Shawn) refunded half the cost of mounting and balancing.

Yeah, I know, cool starry bra - I just believe in putting the word out when places work hard to earn my business.

I've always been pretty pleased with Discount Tire myself.

Still, cool story bro.

Every time I took my BFG MT's in 35/12.5/15 size, they would pinch the sidewall, and make a hole in the carcass of the tire, which would balloon out, and then pop. I bought the tires there, and went from 5 to 6 lug axles. I even bought the rims there. They replaced one of the three tires they damaged, and asked me not to bring them back ever.

Went in with 8 tires (4 mounted, 4 new).

Left with new tires mounted and left the old tires behind.

So the old tires you were going to use, but they ruined your chance of doing that. correct? Even though they were old tires I don't think I would be thanking them. because you had a use for them.

The tires were down to the wear bars and essentially only good for goofing off with. They offered to replace the tire, but that won't work on an AWD car.

I guess I'm a little bit more laid back than some of you bitchy fuckers.

Nope. No reacharound - just an immediate show of concern and willingness to make things right with me. Seems like these days, businesses won't go the extra mile - or even give a fukc - when they screw up.

I've learned today that you should have just shot them and taken a free set of tires for your troubles.

I've been very happy with Discount Tire here in Grand Rapids (Alpine Ave.), too. I have bought probably 7-8 sets of tires there...great service, and good prices. Actually, because of price-matching, my last set of tires had a KICK-ASS price!

I'm also a believer in giving props to businesses with good customer service...it's nice to hear. F' the businesses who have lost sight of customer service. There are plenty of those, as well.

So how many times did you take them in and have a tire ruined?

...never figured out that maybe you shouldn't take them there?

I work in a tire shop, I have yet to see a bead breaker mess up the sidewall of a tire, I see how it could happen especially with lower profile tires, but its easy to do it right... Just saying
