Default Buying a bike without a title

Anyone know how I go about checking on the legality of the motorcycle, and getting a title? Police department, sos?

94 Honda Magna, 2000 miles, light crash it's first year. I think the previous owner may have let it go into repo mode. I want to know if I can keep it before I start ordering parts. Thanks.

I think it is the same as a car. Go to SOS, fill out info, have cops run VIN turn paper work in, become owner.

I just did this. The cops don't need to look at it anymore, the sos runs the numbers. You fill out the info sheet, turn it in and they'll run the info. You'll get a "front of line" slip cause its going to take about an hour. As long as it's not stolen, you'll get your title.
