When I built my house I had a giant ass generator installed to kick in within a minute after losing power. Built it shortly after THE BIG BLACKOUT. I'll be sitting pretty with my air on, lights glowing and music playing. It's nice having a brother as an electrician!!!!

There's going to be a whole lot of sweaty buttfucking in Fabulous Ferndale tonight.

I'm not sure? I think that's when they buried the "N" word.

Who pays for the infrastructure upgrades? I always suspected the power companies leaned on local municipalities to fund that sort of stuff. That would seem smart. But at the same time, it seems like the power company would miss out on revenue by not meeting the increase in demand... unless of course the seasonal increase is so trivial that it would never pay for the upgrading... Hmm...

They started doing the rolling blackouts because one of the units at the major substation took a dump yesterday around 5:30. When they started diverting some of the load over to the other equipment that took a dump too. So now even more people are without power, and they don't know now when power will be restored.

Luckily, i'm on the northeast side of Ferndale and our power was restored about 3am this morning and has stayed on.

Wtf? Everyone has the a/c cranked and they can't keep their shitty grid together? I'm guessing that cities like Phoenix dont have that problem.

DTE isn't government owned, therefore they pay for their own upgrades. It's funded through your electric bill. They may even pay a franchise fee to the local governments.

I guarantee that Phoenix, like every other city in the world has equipment failures that lead to localized power outages. It happens every day. It only becomes news when it is 100*.
