Mercedes plans to invest $2 billion in Vance plant

The head of Mercedes-Benz flew into Tuscaloosa on Wednesday afternoon and gave Alabama an economic shot in the arm, announcing that the luxury automaker would invest $2 billion in its Vance, AL auto plant during the next few years.

“I just wish every decision our company has made was as good as the decision to come to Alabama,” he said.

“We are continuing to write new chapters of the plant's success story with significant investments into the future.

“Tuscaloosa was the first production location of Mercedes-Benz cars ever outside of Germany, and today it is among our best, As our pioneering plant, it is also the blueprint for our new operations in emerging markets,” he said.

Go ahead and bitch about buying American, but this is a big shot in the economy here.

Sweet! The US is finally impoverished enough to entice rich foreign interests to utilize the cheap labor.

Too bad the UAW will jump back in there and ruin it.

Never once have I said "buy american".

If you feel that you need to buy an american car to help support your job then so be it.

But I think people should buy whatever they want to drive whether its a Benz, GM, Ford, Chrysler, or Hyundai...

I just could care less what happens in Alabama or anywhere outside of my special, narrow minded, little world.

For the I don't care about Alabama
and I don't like diamler

I believe one of our grand rapids native companies is investing a bunch of money for a chrome plating line for parts to go to that Mercedes facility.
