Yup, they've had a better than good success rate. I never actually caught why they are being retired? Simply age? No replacements?

Obama ended the space program, the constellation program, and the moon program.

Not that it matters, but Russia is the only country right now who can put men into space.

Atta boy. End the space program but continue to send foreign aid to people that hate us.

Which is not good when it comes to maintenance and repair of satellites, both defense and civilian.

Private enterprise is going to be taking over, with some help from NASA.

Yes, so say goodbye to free GPS in your car and phone. I'm surprised it's taken this long.

Those satellites are military, I doubt they are going to be taken over by private enterprise.

NASA is ending its low earth orbit programs and letting the private sector handle that. NASA will be focusing on deep space projects.

Nasa is welfare for smart people. 40+ years and all we got was tang, freeze dried ice cream, a pen that writes upside down and a mattress that you can jump on and not spill your wine.

42 Years ago yesterday, we put a man on the moon for the first time. Today, we scrapped the space program. America, Fuck Yeah!

Sure. Private enterprise will pick right up where NASA left off. Should only take another 10 to 20 years.

Its ok, once we elect Ron Paul he will bring back the space program. He is a true american, not like Oblama.

thanks to guys like Burt Rutan, I think the private sector will have something ready quicker than 10-20 years.

I saw the title of this thread, and the sad face, and immediately worried that something had happened to the shuttle upon re-entry.
