Polaris.

CanAms are nice, but everyone I know who has one has required mechanical intervention within the first two years - often the first. Ran across a group from PA a few years back where two new Kawi Brute Force's snapped belts on the first trail ride.

I have a 2011 polaris 800 efi, i went with this for the fact of efi and big twin displacement, my freind has a 500 carbed and it does pretty good, but i like having some extra umph on tap when i need it. You can special order a efi 500, i would try to keep it simple as far as ebs but ive head its pretty nice as well as power steering. Looking back if i would change any thing aobut my purchase i would have went 850 polaris for power steering and 4 wheel disc brakes verses the 3 wheel disc in the h.o. models.

Just my .02

On a side note polaris are american made and by far cheeper than other atv's. My freind has a brute force 750, its a sweet atv as well plus has front diff lock but off the line the 800 dominates.

Polaris, I had both a 800efi and a 500 efi. Both great quads but the 800 was king!

I have a 500 EFI Sportsman and it's been great. Riding buddy has an 850, which is definitely faster. However, in real-world trail riding that difference is not useful - if you planned to do any pulling, etc... it may be worth it. I haven't seem anything the 500 couldn't do, trail or obstacle-wise.

I had an '06 Can Am Outlander 800, sold it 2 years ago. Awesome power, rode and handled great. It kind of felt like a sport quad if rode hard. Back when I had it there wasn't a factory 800 class machine that was as quick as the Outy. The clutch system was kind of annoying. At times the belt would slip on steep hill climbs and the belt would get wet fairly easy. Other than that no issues with it.

I now have a workhorse of a machine, Honda Foreman 450S. Not fast and rides like shit, but it is a bulletproof workhorse. Real affordable too.

If I were buying a new (belt driven) machine it would be a Yamaha Grizzly, probably a 700. I believe them to be about the best for what I do. Good ride, front diff lock, and good clutching with a housing that doesn't leak.

I have had several yamaha and one honda, I bought a polaris 550 EFI a year and a half ago mostly because it was 82% american made. I was stunned at how much I like it compared to the others I have owned and road.

I would recomend the polaris quads to any one.

Yup go polaris. And for sure go efi. Mine is 700cc carbed, and my buddy's 800 efi runs a whole lot better. As for belt vs. automatic car type transmissions, if anything goes wrong with the belt or gear box or what ever on my sports man, its something i can either fix myself, or remove and reinstall a rebuilt unit. If you get an older polaris, 2005 vintage, make sure the dealer did the breather update when it was in for service, becuse when this recall isnt done, the engine can drink water and mud.

Might want to talk to CJ5sbc. I have talked to him about a new sled in the past and I believe he has sold some quads to people on here.
