^^^
thanks

I also received my wheel adapters in the mail yesterday (5x4.75 to 5x5.5). I got 4 of them so I could break one and be able to keep wheeling, break the spare and still be able to drive it home.

Yeah it has been fun so far but we'll see how that goes once the actually swap happens.

As of now all of the hw has been done (longest part), parts bought, and the front axle is now complete hub to hub!!!

Yeah his knowledge amazes me every time we work on something... Im learning a lot from him

Here is my modified rear tire carrier, I have changed the bolt pattern and moved the mount in to compensate for the new back spacing. Better departure angle and less leverage on the carrier it’s self. The mounting plate has moved down for a better view too.

Before

After

I had to relocate the plate to the middle to see it. It is two pieces of tube sleeved over top of each other with a bolt holding it together, to allow tire removal. The plate backing is made from 3/16 so if I need it I have a piece of 1' by 6" plate for a trail repair.

Any one know of a light that I could use for the rear plate? Autozone has one but the cord exits from the top, im looking for one to go trough the back.

Mount the plate somewhere else, the rims looks waaaay better than a tag. Almost a sin to cover it up.

Yeah I would have to agree with you. But that one is there just for show because I only have 4 bead locks.

The real spare is just a regular steel wheel, so the plate will help to hide the rim.

Ok I have a few questions about setting up gears. How do you measure for the shims on both the pinion and the side bearings? I have seen it on Extreme4x4 but haven’t found out how to do it myself.

Also are there any tricks or tips on how to set up gears in an axle that is still in the car?

What is the proper gear oil to break in a set of gears? Regular oil for break in then full synthetic like a motor, or just run full synthetic from the start?

Any links or advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m setting up the rear end tomorrow.

Thanks

Ok it’s been awhile since I’ve posted but that’s a good thing

The blazer is finished and has been so for a about a week, I have been busy making adjustments and tweaks. Even though it is done I will still put the pictures up in order.

Here is the beginning to my 7 day build

There were a lot more parts involved with the IFS than I ever had imagined,
This about a quarter of it.

Nice and clean

First time with the tires in the wheel wells. Ended up stretching it 3 to 4 inches to clear the firewall.

This was the end of the fist day

Day 3

Finished up the draglink, bending 1.5" .250 wall is not fun or easy

Did a little grinding for frame plating

Also did some parts runs, and one trip to Unlimited for an extra hiem.

Day 4

Frame was plated with 3/16 before welding on the Ballistic mounts

This was its first time on its own weight (jack was there for safety not fully welded)

Truck looks high because the rear is still on 31's

Spent rest of the day grinding and tying up loose ends.

looks good. I dont know if you got a light for your plate. They have bolts with leds on them so you replace the top or bottom two bolts with the lights and shazzam you have a license light.

Day 6

Tore out the rear end for a spring over and gear swap.

We were up until 4:50 am setting up the gear and the p.i.t.a. locker twice. Apparently you have to put the pins in first with a lock right

More pics up in a bit

ok so no new pics just been too busy

But, I did pick up a front drive shaft. It is from a 4 cylinder 5 speed cherokee, and its o.d. is about the size of my finger. Im wondering if anyone knows how strong that shaft is. Im not opposed to getting a regular cherokee shaft cut down but this one fits for now and the price was right and I want to wheel

Just trying to get a feel for how long it will last.
