Criagslist Selling

When you guys sell something small (not cars or tvs or the such) on craigslist, do you have the person come to your house or do you meet them somewhere to perform the transaction?

I have done it both ways. When they come to the house, they meet a somewhat intimidating person in me, backed up with two large Labradors....not usually a problem. Plus, I usually have a pretty good conversation before any meet up. If the caller seems "hinky", then we meet somewhere public. And with those type of deals I never go alone.

I never let someone come to my house, always meet in a well lit busy parking lot.

I make sure to talk to them on the phone to get a "feeling" for the type of person they might be. If they come to my house I will have the item sitting in the drive and have the garage closed up so they can't case my place.
I live on a main road anyhow so anyone that comes over will be seeing the same thing as if they drove by.

I've met people to buy stuff of CL and meeting in some lot makes me feel like I may be buying stolen goods.

Anyone else get this vibe?

The way I see it is everyone feels better in a public place. They don't have to worry that I'll drag them down to my basement and chop them into little pieces and I don't have to worry they'll come back and steal my stuff while I'm at work. It's a win win in my opinion.

I have met people in parking lots a few times to buy/sell guns, I feel like a criminal then

Yep it gives me bad vibes, like I could be getting set up for a robbery or buying stolen goods...I usually have people just come to my house when I sell something, there have been a few times where I have delivered an item.

I've done both, bought items from peoples houses (I usually bring a friend though) and met them places for stuff; and I have had people pick stuff up and met them at like a gas station to sell stuff. I am a bigger guy who usually drives a big truck to these places so I probably intimidate people in most circumstances lol. I have gone alone though before to get stuff, or to sell stuff. I usually meet at a gas station, it's public, and they have cameras so in the unlikely event something did happen, there is a record lol. As long as you aren't doing anything illegal you will be fine. The one thing I would say, if selling on craigslist, put in there somewhere sold as is. Best of luck,

Paint

its kinda sad that a conversation like this needs to take place. Nobody used to worry about someone knowing where they live. I've given my address to complete strangers, and went to the homes of complete strangers, to buy or sell stuff. I've even went to peoples houses when they werent home, but knew I was coming, and had the item sitting outside for me, and then left the cash with someone else at thier house or in an envolope somewhere they told me to leave it.
I still often give my address out when I have somethign for sale, depending on where its posted (on here, or some othere forums, not a problem. on CL...well, maybe not). I'm not one to normally assume the worst of people, but things are different these days, and people do need to protect themselves.

Have them meet you at a police station...maybe you wouldnt feel like a criminal then

I've done both. Most GL4x4, , etc. seem to have always been very decent and a pleasure to do business with. Craigslist.....well that's getting pretty interesting. Usually I have people me at my house or where I'm selling something (like a car at a nearby place). I never have really had a problem with CL people, but it only takes once.

I had one woman invite me into her foyer. She left for a moment to grab something from the kitchen, leaving her <5 daughter in the front with me... It was a nice area and good for her for trusting people but damn, don't leave your child with a stranger. I wasn't going to do anything, I just wanted my mats but you never know what other people will do..
