In a few years you will be free of kids and wont need a bigger house anyway.
I agree with both these statements. I'd imagine the wife would not want just a new house, but new furniture all around, landscaping, paint, etc. It would add up quickly. Unless your wife is the type to like having a baller house with milk crates and pizza boxes stacked up for furniture.
Then again I'm 23 and have not bought a house.

My idea of happy, small house, big pole barn with lots of toys in it. Preferably with some acreage.

Big pretty new houses = big house, heat, and cooling payments and usually an association that tells you what wattage light bulb you must have in the porch light not to mention what you can or cannot park in your own damn driveway. No thank you!!

Another chick voting against.

How do you know you aren't describing the exact same house?

We were looking at the same Dave...nice big houses with a pool, big garage blah blah blah. If you can swing it happily on dual income go for it if it is what you both want. We went with a cute fixer upper with lots of equity in it in a great tiny subdivision. Best part is that the house note and utilities can be taken care of by either one of our incomes. If one us were to fall ill, god forbid we could survive. With the economy in the shape it is not a good choice to be way upside down unless you can be. Good luck in your house hunting.

15 years ago I was married to the guy that had to have the new house, new car, biggest TV, a real "keep up with the Jones'" kind of guy. I realized from that marriage a lot of things, but 1 that held true...........THINGs don't make people happy. That comes from within.

And you WILL talk to me again!!!
