I have a Gamo Big Cat and it is pretty bad ass for the price. I picked it up at Gander Mountain on sale for $129. I mounted a BSA 40mm scope on it with the better Solid Gamo mount. It's dead nuts accurate out to 50 yards or so. Can shoot accurate further out but you have to then accommodate for drop.
The whisper is only restricted because it is suppressed. The other guns are not that loud at all. You can shoot at targets and they don't even act like they hear it.

Whispers are illegal in MI because the state considers the mussel end device to be a suppressor. Getting caught with one will result in a 5 year felony.

There is a company that makes .40 cal air rifles marketed for medium game use. I forgot the name of them though.

The hottest .177 I can think of is the Gamo SOCOM. 1650 fps IIRC. But if you really want to spend some money on a nice .177 or .22 Id go with RWS. Once you step up from them youre talking about very high end competition/ custom rifles.

1600 fps in a .177 cal would prob make some nice exit wounds on game. For that much speed and kenetic energy i'd think .22cal would be better

thats with a light pellet. I would rather use a lead pellet that expands.

If you buy a cheaper Gamo, be aware that the trigger is probably going to suck.... but you can get a replacement for not too much money. My dad has a Gamo that is pretty accurate and quiet, not bad for a sub $200 gun, but it needs the trigger job.

I have an RWS that I've had for 10+ years. Love it.

X2 on the RWS...have a model 34 and model 350, they both have excellent adjustability in the triggers and are dead nuts accurate.
