Default TH350 no automatic upshift ***FIXED***

The th350 in my YJ will not upshift when in D but will upshift if I put it in 1, then shift to 2, and then to D. Kind of a pain in city driving.

Any ideas?

What have you done recently?

Bad governor?

Disconnected TV line?

Someone converted it to a manual valve body when you weren't looking?

Wait for KillerB to chime in

I've done nothing to it. Was working fine in canada, it just started like over night. Checked the vac modulator connections and all looks good there. Maybe a bad vac mod though.

Pull the rear govenor cover .... Most likely a busted govenor gear. The plastic gear either breaks off or "apple cores" looks like a apple that has been eaten.

Got under there today with better light and found the vac line cracked right at the vac modulator, right at the clamp that holds the hose on.

Cut off 3/4 inch of hose, stuck it back on, put the clamp on and blamo...it shifts again!

That's cool a vac mod usually doesn't effect the t-350 that way. I know it does on the 400, Glad it is fixed.

When I first put this trans in....like a few years ago....we didn't hook that thing up and it wouldn't shift at all. Musta been getting a little vac this time to let it shift manually...but the 2-3 shift was very soft. Now it is all better...nice, firm, you can feel the shift kit again.
