4.88 R&P DiffCase Question

Hey all,

New to the forum. I have a question on my 09 JK Sahara with D30 Front and D44 Rear and upgrading to 4.88s. I have heard that I might need new differential carriers to match the gears when the go in my axles. The parts I have in hand are the matching Ring and Pinions for 4.88s as well as the bearing kits. All the parts are by Motive Gear.

Thanks for the responses in advance.

Depending on what gear ratio is in it now, you may need a new front carrier (and spider gears) to support the new gears. The rear will be fine.

You'll need a new Dana 30 carrier and spider gears, or some type of limited slip/locking differential.

you'll also need a new dana 44 carrier. what you should have done is get the thick dana 44 gear to take up the differance, you would have had to ream the holes for the ring gear bolts and you would have been all set.
