Good stuff!

How would you compare Harlan to other areas, within a similar distance, that you have visited? Well, compare meaning variety of terrain, size of playground, and camping/hotel accomdations.

That is an easy answer for me. I have been to Tellico, Badlands, Slade, Livingston, Paragon, Moab, and some private places in Tenn. and Harlan is one of my favorite. Paragon is great but a little to far, Badlands is great just to small. I like Harlan much better than tellico also. The people in Harlan are some of the most friendley people I have met. They actually stopped us in the parking lots and thanked us for coming to there town. There is 7000 acres of land in Harlan and it is free to roam. You can wheel all night also. We stayed at the Black Mountain Cabins (I think that is what they were called) and there were very nice. Only a couple of miles from the trail head. They even allow atv's to drive down the roads. The reason I like it better than tellico is you dont have to ride on a bumpy trail for an hour just to hit one obsticle. You can hit alot of trails in groups. If you do have to drive to get to a trail it is a fairley smooth logging road. Check out www.kymc.org for more info. They have someone willing to guid about every saturday for free.

Thanks for the review. Sounds like a good place to burn a solid two days worth of wheelin'.

I've been to the Badlands, Slade, Drummond, Going to Canada next month and so far I would rate it

#1 Harlan, 9hrs from Midland, biggest park (7000 acres), good map, bypasses for all the trails I've seen so far, Black Mountain Cabins are great (already reserved 2 for next memorial weekend), hotels w/in 10 minutes from trails, camping right at the trails, rocky terrain with dirt/rock roads leading everywhere, no mud, awesome views, nice people. I think it's worth the extra 1-2 hrs over Slade or Badlands to get a HUMONGOUS PARK
#2 Slade, 8 hrs from Midland, mostly private (when I was there last), didn't know where in the world I was let alone waldo, not as big, same terrain as Harlan, don't know about their accomodations.
#3 Badlands, 7hrs from Midland, small park for a long weekend a short weekend it's great, you know the terrain
#4 Drummond, 4hrs from Midland, ~400 acre park, good map, bypasses for harder stuff, accomodations are great, rock, mud, trails, only time I've been was when there was 3+ feet of snow and it was a blast, not sure how swampy muddy summer would be there but I'd definetly go check it out again

just an ego (Brent, mr. 37s or should I say try it 21 times )

I lost my fuel pump on the last day at about 4pm.
James broke a shock the first day, we put a chain on and called it good. and a front upper control arm joint (stopped at Franks to borrow the welder and had it back together to wheel the rest of the weekend, Frank lives right of the trail head and is great for helping out people)
Brent doesn't beat on his wife's jeep very hard so nothing ever happens to it , he should let me ride it
Jim's did great this time no issues

You will notice that there are no pics posted of Andrew (akozman) being towed back to the cabins behind my (wifes) jeep!!!:miff: And hey the 21 times is because I have that make it or break it attitude and nothing broke.
This is Andrew on the way back to the cabins
