It's all dependant on the plasma cutter and speed setting you program into it.

I've seen them cut over 1" with a good plasma unit.

Can you use any normal hand held plasma cutter or does it take a special on for the table?

The biggest thing is to use a plasma machine that you can get differnt heads for. I've seen some nice work done with a hand held trigger mounted on an adjustable mount and I've seen crappy cuts with a dedicated machine head with bad tips.
This one has a roller-ball style mount for a table-style tip to be inserted into, but that could easily be changed out.
We have used Hypertherm and ESAB units and both worked great.- both of those companies have several different options as their machines are designed for production use.
I have not had ANY experience with Lincoln or Miller units on one of these machines, but I would not rule them out.

Alright, that sounds good! I don't have the cash to buy it at the moment but I will talk to a couple friends and see if they would be interested in pitching in on it. If you could find a link to which table it is or a model number that would be great so I can see what it is exactly and the new price. We got a bridgeport mill, a radial arm drill press and a bender set up so a lathe, iron worker and plasma table are the next 3 big purchases.

I may have a used Hypotherm plasma available soon that should go right on this table.

We have two of them, both will cut up to 3" steel, but I believe we have an older Hypotherm 200 amp plasma cutter getting sold soon.
If anyone buys this and needs help getting it setup on a computer, that is what I do for a living (IT Manager for a fortune 500 steel service center).

See my avatar for an example of what you can do with a CNC plasma cutter. The Jeep logo is 3/8" thick floor plate.

Thanks guys. I'll get the model # and other info this weekend as well. I know that the shop it originally came from spent big $$$ on it- like to the tune of $80K, but that was probably turn-key with everything including help programming.
Monsterman got it as part of a liquidation deal when the place went belly-up.

We just decided to go a different direction with our shop.

There have been a few questions about it being a water-table. It is not, but it is fully open underneath and anyone could build a simple water-tray on castors or rollers for it.
We had it set-up for a ventilation/filter system.

Now that I think about it, I believe that we can show you that the actuators/drive motors work by programming it to move maually. It should only take a few minutes to hook it back up and run a couple sweeps for anyone interested.

80K isn't a bad price. Our new one we bought in 09 was discounted 50% and still set us back $700K (about 1.1M after pouring new foundation to support it and all the other stuff it needed) like a new crane...

Yeah, I checked it out and a 5x10 table is aprox 20K for just the table, the plasma cutter itself is another 20-40K for a propper 400 amp Hypotherm unit new, and that is just the price of the parts. That does not include any setup/support or PC to control them.

:-) $3K is a smokin deal if anyone is looking to get into CNC cut parts. Way too small for anything we use (we have three tables, the smallest of them is 96X240).
