Default 2004 neon mpg's??

i got an 04 neon for my work commute, and to take me up north every weekend. it had/has a few issues. im slowly working them out. i took it up north this weekend. i was taking it easy on it, to see how good the mileage could be. 272miles on 6.62 gallons. thats about 41 mpg. about 100 miles of the trip was 54 to 55 mpg on 4 lane highway. the rest was on I75 at 65 to 67 mph. it has the check engine light on due to an evap issue. is it possible it is running too lean? the mpg seems pretty high to me.

i was expecting 34 to 36 mpg highway. i have been getting 32 to 33 mpg on my work commute 60 miles round trip daily, 70% freeway at 75+ mph.

is this kinda mileage "normal", or do i have another issue?

I personally think 41 is a stretch. One tank is pretty had to judge in how 'full' was it to start and how 'full' was it when I refilled.
Especially when the advertised numbers for that vehicle are 25/32 C/H.

My Vibe HAS to high a N/V and I can just squeeze 32 out of it in my daily romp to and from work. Its advertised @ 21/29. Put it on the freeway @ 70 and it drops to 28. I short shift it which is why I get the better numbers non-highway.
2000 rpm @ 50 and 3000 @ 70.
What's the Neon rpm?

i feel the same way about "how full is it really"
i filled it till it ran out the neck when i left. filled it till it ran out the neck when i refilled. i had to force feed it about 2.5 gallons both times. you could not put in anymore fuel either time! i did this cause i wanted to figure the mpg on an even playing field.

the rpms are fairly low for a neon. neons rev kinda high on the freeway even with the 4spd trans.
my tires are taller than stock. the factory tires were 185/60/15.
it now has 195/65/15. 5.2% larger than stock. in my mpg math i corrected for this at 5.2 percent. thats gotta be where my math is messed up.

i checked on another couple sites and i have been told its 4.97% and 5.3%
even if i figured it at 4% it would be around 40mpg.

about 2400 rpm is 66 to 67
about 1900 rpm is 54 to 55

this has the 4speed overdrive automatic, the extra gear helps.

i shifted as low as possible. very little throttle input to attain speed.
i was really taking it easy. 41 has to be wrong. i was hoping for 36, im told this is prety good on the neon fourms.

your right, short trips are not the best way to get an mpg estimate.
i was wondering what mpg i would get on the freeway, and how much it would cost me to go up north every weekend. its sure alot cheaper than my superduty!

somehow the math has to be wrong? anyway i cut it i got killer mpg's!

the evap code can be caused from a few simple things, like bad gas cap or car left running while the gas cap was removed. i can see a neon pulling around 32-34 mpg, but 41 is kinda outta its range.

made the same trip last weekend. hammed the snot out of that little car.
all of the freeay ride was well over 3k rpms. averaged 35.2 mpg.

any way i cut it i really enjoy the mileage!

have not driven the superduty in over a month. its saving me near $100 per week in gas.
