Default Zoning has issues with play bog, any input?

We have 2-3 different folks that host play bogs in the Ludington area. Zoning sent a letter to at least one stating they are now a nuisance and they cannot hold more than one event a year. Anybody been down this road? Its a good time at each with people from all over the state attending. I would say 1 a month at one of the 3 so its not a weekly event at the same place.

Generally, the property owner will need to get a special land use permit for hosting a mud bog on their property, especially if they are charging money (or trying to be cute and getting around it by "accepting donations" or requiring participants to buy a "membership").

On this side of the state, there was a case in Armada where the property owner was hosting one roughly once a month. They attempted to get a special land use permit and were denied (they had a lot of complaints about noise and traffic from neighbors) and instead of filing an appeal decided to continue hosting them regardless - in clear violation of the court's injunction.

That was in the summer of 2012 and I'm not sure what came of it after the violation.

If you are not charging money, not accepting donations, not ruining wetlands, and only using your own property as you see fit tell the township to fukc off.

There are tons of bogs in my area throughout the summer. Some are small, some bring in thousands of people and dozens of trucks. The past few years there have been some issues with townships and county stuff related to them. I don't remember details, but I know it's become an issue for many in Livingston County.

Nuisance ordinances are used for anything that the township wants to stop from happening.

Best way to keep neighbors from complaining is to invite them to the party!

Yes, I am aware you are being sarcastic

I've been to a few bogs. Paved roads leaving the area of a bog were heavily speckled with mud clumps.
Could be one thing that may have been a nuisance to area neighbors

Yea, well she used MY squeegee and I had to wash my windshield after. I almost told her brake fluid would clean her car better, but I didn't want to overload the situation.

So far only one of the 3 owners have received a letter. I think its the money, if there wasnt any entry fee I think he would be in the clear.

I would ask for a copy of the zoning laws being violated. Many townships are overbearing and try to bully people into not doing things that are perfectly legal.
