I love shit like this, there's nothing left for them to ban so they are starting to "require" things. That really gives us a shitload of options.

I had the option of moving with my previous employer to Chicago....

Instead I chose to quit. Glad to see I made the right decision. There's no way in hell my kid would be going to that school, and if they did today would be their last day.

To ban peanut foods - OK. It's still bullshit (because I think a lot of allergies are preventable), but if it means a kid living/dying, I'm OK with it. But telling me that their food is more nutritious? Yes, because tator-tots, processed cheese, and a hot-dog bun is sooooo healthy, and them eating that alone will save this nation from excess health care costs in 20 years.

They say the school food is better for them to eat. Or is it just wanting more control?

Control?? Who wants that, liberals don't want control, they just want to do what's best for us. Some of us are not smart enough so they want to do it for us.

I have a daughter who is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. We asked the school specifically not to ban nuts, but to simply offer one peanut-free table where she and her friends could eat. It isn't right for he us to try to prevent other kids from eating things they like when she can avoid them.

Chris, you'll be a millionaire in months if you can show how to avoid allergies like this. I'm not kidding. They can't even say what causes food allergies much less cure them right now.

F a bunch of telling ME what MY kids will or will not eat.
Way out of line.
This Elsa Carmona principal lady is hysterical. "Nutrition wise, it is better for the children to eat at the school."

Don't you guys know that Mrs. Obama's new school lunch plan is the most healthiest lunch program around? I mean, come on.

BTW, I think this is crap. I transport (inbetween driving school bus) the food for the elementaries in another district. I'm in the kitchen, I pull the food. WHile it's gotten alot better in the past 2 years (with Mrs. Obama's plan). It still isn't healthy. A majority of what they send out is still processed.

There are some pluses to the program, but not enough to make the more healthy then your normal cold lunch. My kid would be sent to school with a cold lunch. If he got it taken away, I would sue. They can't deny any kid food. They also cannot take it away.

Really?!?

I think it has more to do with this--->

Any school that bans homemade lunches also puts more money in the pockets of the district's food provider, Chartwells-Thompson. The federal government pays the district for each free or reduced-price lunch taken, and the caterer receives a set fee from the district per lunch.
Than giving kids a healthy meal.

We have a Winner! This exactly what it is. I'm still pretty sure, from my experience, that it is Illegal to deny a kid food. They legally can't 'go hungry'. They have to, at the very least, provide a PB&J. I don't think this will last long.

You understand that it's one school, not every school in the entire metro Chicago area right?

Am i the only one that thinks the only real reason they're doing that is to make kids pay the school for lunch? Seems like an easy way for the school to make more money

Edit- Nevermind, i actually read the rest of the thread lol

From what I'm reading its been going on for quite a while.

Carmona said she created the policy six years ago after watching students bring "bottles of soda and flaming hot chips" on field trips for their lunch. Although she would not name any other schools that employ such practices, she said it was fairly common.
