Default 9 inch spool/locker question

I need some new gears in my ford 9 inch rear. It currently has a mini spool. The question is, should I run the mini spool? Seems like I remember hearing of them breaking? If they do break, what determines the "safe" limit to run one?

My axle is under a jeep cj/yj

5.3 motor (+nos in the future)
4l60e tranny
5.13 gears
35 mud terrain tires

Used for =
going to the mall/dq
dunes
trails
not sure how much rock time it will see?

Thanks

The mini spool don't break the cross pin does.

For the $100 buy a full spool

We only paid 65$ for our full spool in the old mans truck on eBay new. With that said I ran a mini with chromoloy cross pin for years in my full-size bronco. Rocks, trails, dunes, and daily drove it. In a 9" with 38" boggers. Never an issue.

i found a detroit on ebay for 180 shipped from dei racing. shop around escam and see what ya find. used 9" lockers are not impossible to find.

if ya stay with a spool get a full spool, its way stronger. if you destroy your mini spool it will take out the new gears.

good luck

Anything with a cross pin is more prone to breaking. With your setup, spend the $120 on a full spool.

$100 plus set-up if he doesn't know how to do it.

You already have the mini-spool so run it. What you describe for the drivetrain and type of wheeling you'll be fine.

Cost - free
