ummm hellllllllooooo, hey collin, are you out there? we wanna hear the good news.

My GF and I rode the ore to shore mountain bike race this weekend, 48 miles. Typically around the 15-20 mile mark you tend to partner up with someone as you have pretty much decided to give up and not ride the last 25-30 miles, your body wants to shut down and you are exhausted.

Anyway, what does that have to do with you?

Jess really struggled in the first 15 miles of the race and was ready to give in, when out of no where one of the very few riders behind her caught up to her and said, get back on the bike, we're gonna finish this race....

she looked around, the only person in sight for miles in either direction was "mike" who rode the final 25 miles or so with her.

Mike had been diagnosed with throat cancer in april and had not ridden his bike since, had just finished up a round of chemo two weeks or so before the race, and was racing for his daughters. His only goal was to finish (he previously was in the top 5% of finishers). They enjoyed watching him race.

Jess wanted to give up, he pretty much said if I am gonna finish this race, I am gonna need you to finish it with me, she couldn't quit after that. So they finished it together.

As she told me his story, it made me think of you, I figured you'd appreciate the story.

Right on. I like it.

Well today was a pretty good day so far. After waiting nearly an hour in the room for the Dr to come in i got some fairly good news. As of right now im gonna be on some oral meds, same ones i have been taking, for two weeks on and two weeks off for 2 months. The two scans i had showed not much of anything. I have one Hot spot in my sternum that the Dr is not sure of. He wants to recheck me in 2 months, or if i have any pain or changes he wants me to get in right away. This does not mean im cured or ever gonna be, that was made very clear to us today. But this does give me a chance to spend some good quality time with my family. The chances of this killing me are still very high. But the way i see it any day im here is another day to beat it. I thank you all for your concern and prays and the pms i get weekly asking how i am. You all are a special group of people, and for that MY FAMILY is grateful. We are looking forward to our vacation the rest of this week, it is gonna be great.

Well i figured i would update this. Almost done with the first round of oral meds. So far im feeling pretty good. Have a few weird side effects but nothing i cant live with. I go back to the Dr on Tuesday and hope he has some good news.

I cant thank you all enough for the kind words and support you have shown. I just sent a HUGE check to the Mayo Clinic for my 4 day shit fest out there. What downer that was. But hey that is why a ton of people stepped up and helped us out, and for that i will be grateful for ever and ever. For those that came to R&V and those you came to the pig roast i thank you again. For the ones who send pm's and ask how im doing I offer a big Thank You. For those that call, well you guys need to learn that i sleep till at least 10 am..................lol .. Not really, Im really looking forward to the next few months, hoping to go back to work soon. The Dr and my boss are both hesitant to let me go back full time. I dont think i could do it any other way. You really dont know how good people are until you go through something as nasty as cancer. It sucks, but when you have GREAT people looking after you it makes the sickness a bit easier to deal with.

Thanks Guys and Gals.

Kind of amazing how much a group of people you hardly know can effect your life. Here's hoping you get to see that son of yours learn to drive, graduate, meet a girl and start that cycle of life all over again. Cherish your time with he and your wife. And with continued prayers and good luck, many, many years from now you'll look back at this and know you won.
