So replace Cop with Firefighter. How does your logic work then? How bout replacing it with teacher, school bus driver, etc?

Also, I know plenty of Cops that are upstanding citizens. Great guys. I've never been mistreated by a cop or even given some kind of crappy attitude. It could just be my Stunning good looks () but the reason you think all cops are Dbags could be because every cop you've encountered is just returning the attitude that you have portrayed to them. In Smaller words, Cops are Dbags to you because you are a Dbag to them. Just a guess.

BTW, It's not a letter. You don't have to sing your name. The Webernets does that automatically for you.

Well Scott,
Thank you for the info on proper internet etiquette/prose......
I am not really sure what point you are trying to make with the firefighter, teacher etc. question/statement? Seems a bit like a red herring??
Most people can ascertain that certain careers/jobs, seem to attract a certain element or type of person..... In general, bullies are more than happy if you are going out of your way to appease them, question one sometime and see what happens? A uniform, badge etc. doesn't place somebody above reproach. I wouldn't say all police are bad, but your chance of finding an upstanding "human being" in the LEO "profession" is about equal to finding a "quality" politician........... Most don't serve, and few protect, rather they have become nothing but glorified collection agents, who sadly target regular, everyday working folks, not criminals. Be honest and ask yourself if serving process for silly, "civil" infractions (many created for the sole purpose of bilking money from the general public) really amounts to "law enforcement"? Regards, Steve

You're welcome. :D

I said that because the topic was originally about public employees like Firefighters, Teachers, School Bus drivers, Cops, ETC. You used the example of 'bad cops' and why they don't deserve what they get paid. I merely said that there are examples in any public employed job where they don't deserve what they get. Those examples usually are dwarfed in comparison to the ones that are 'good'.

Cops may be Aholes, I don't agree with you. I am a School bus driver and we deal with them everyday face to face. Maybe our city got lucky, I don't know. Truth is you're mad at them for pulling people over when that's their job. It doesn't matter who they pull over, if they are doing something illegal, they can pull you over. Also, Don't get mad at THEM for stupid laws put into effect by LEGISLATORS to make money. They are just following their job description.

My other point was that maybe the reason you think alot of cops are jerks is because of how you act towards them. Maybe not. For a minute let's think about this though.

If, at your job, every experience you had with someone they gave you a crappy attitude (like the one you have portrayed), wouldn't you get a bit cranky too? If you had to deal with people that treated you like crap all day long? General rule of thumb - If you don't want a cop to give you crap, dont' give the cop crap. He's doing his job.

Scott,
Your argument is just silly, all of us have to deal with assholes at one time or another, all of us have bad days etc. Police officers just seem to really bask in the glory of not having to "put up with it"..... sad really, you couldn't treat an upset customer (in retail), or parent (for the bus drivers of the world) etc. as they do, they know they will get the last word, they know the "law" is on their side. Another problem is that the police are free to administer "the law" as they see fit...... they pick and choose who gets treated well, they will decide who will go free and who will pay (see U.S. constitution if you think this is OK). Speaking of the U.S. Constitution, the police take an oath to uphold it, what a joke, most haven't read it, but I am sure most would be more than happy to lie about how much they know about it...... My point remains, you probably have NO PROBLEM with the police, they are great people to those who do as they are told, but unfortunately, no real character is required or displayed, when every thing goes your way, when folks go out of their way to appease you, to avoid any harassment ...... You may think I am way off base, but ask the majority of Americans how they feel when they see a police car roll up behind them? Yeah, I'm sure most "honest" Americans will tell you, the first thing they feel, is how safe they are!lol

My problem with teachers and most other public employees is their arrogance, it is a good thing they spend their free time telling private sector workers, how hard their jobs are, or we would never know!lol We certainly aren't able to relate.....

Teachers, hmm.... a lot of talk about how little money they make, but keep in perspective, they work PART TIME..... Wow, underpaid making $62,000 a year (I believe the average Michigan teachers salary) working 185 days a year..... let me grab a tissue..... and before you get all crazy about teachers this, teachers that, most of us here have spent a minimum of 12 years in the public school system, so to treat folks like they have no idea what they are talking about, would be foolish..... Most teachers do not work hard, if at all... they typically spend all day unsupervised and their performance is routinely so poor they have stooped to the level of blaming everyone (students, Parents, administrators, etc.) but themselves, for the piss poor education many kids are receiving. There is an old adage; those that can, Do. Those that can't, Teach.....

Over all, I'm not shocked about the lack of quality in public sector employees, I think it has more or less been a trickle down effect. Public servants, at the top, have been mooching, taking payoffs, and performing with their own best interests in mind for years, as have Union leaders, when these are your superiors, you really can't expect much more from the "peons". I was kind of OK with the ineptitude of most public servants/workers, but the servants have become the masters, dictating terms, making demands, abusing their positions and acting as chieftains a little too long..... "They work for us", doesn't mean anything anymore, people still say it, but everyone knows, it just isn't so.

I have to go, I spent the evening writing out a list of demands for my boss to adhere to, if he wishes to keep me as an employee..... My last few reviews have only been so-so, but when the parents of your co-workers are so inept, what can anyone really expect of me? I'll let you know how my "demands" session went, tomorrow. Regards, A hard working, under payed, private sector, employee...... or did your world wide webz tell you that too....lol

I guess you and just have a different understanding of Police officers. Mine being based in positive, professional relationships with them and yours being based in negative ones.

And yes, I do feel uncomfortable when a cop pulls up behind me, but then again, I don't speed, I don't give them a reason to want to pull me over. When I'm in my bus I even wave a them. Heck, in our apartment complex the cops come around and are always talking to the kids and letting them play with the lights and stuff in thier cars. I guess that's a perfect example of them being a bully? "You push this button that makes the lights go or I'll take you in for not doing what I say".

Ok, so for the first 7-8, maybe even 10 years of those 12 years we're in the public school we're kids. We're not paying attention to how the teachers act or what quality of work they are doing. Most of us just went to get a degree because our mom and dad told us to.

On the flip side, those of us who interact with kids in an adult manor, see how the teachers also interact with the kids. LIke I've said before, Maybe I'm just lucky, but the way I see the teachers interact and teach the kids I transport is anything but lazy. Sure, there are some, like any other job, that are lazy and don't do much. There are quite a few, I'll admit it. But I won't clump the majority of teachers into that. I have far to much first hand experience dealing with them as a adult to know better.

One thing people also don't realize is that teachers don't work just an 8 hour day. They have papers they have to grade, they have conferences they have to go to, a majority of them are involved in some other after school activity. Just like many people think that a pastor works one day a week, teachers work more then just when the kids are in session. How do I know? My mom was a teacher for 25+ years for the public school system. My brother has been a teacher for about 4 years now.

I'm not saying all teachers deserve this kind of pay but I'm saying that there are defiantly plenty that do.

I will agree with you that the unions have gotten out of hand. This is also something I've witnessed first hand at the many board meetings I've had to go to to find out the fate of my job. It's not the teachers, for the most part, that have forced the inflation of the unions though. It's the higher ups. I know far to many teachers that hate the union because of what they do and what they "preach". My mom has been told way to often to vote for this person, or do this to ensure "a better experience for the kids". But it's not the peons (just like it's not the cops who make the laws) that are to blame. It's the higher ups that get kickbacks for pushing through certain things.

Regards, A hard working, under payed, private sector, employee...... or did your world wide webz tell you that too....lol

sounds like someone wanted to be a cop but could pack the gear to serve...hahahah...bummer on your dreams not working out dude
